          Indeed.

Once you look at most of the non-Franchise games most of them are multiplatform anyway. Oh well...

The Xbox seems to have very good taste in putting out thier games. Just put out the same games as the GameCube and you can not go wrong.

BTW, Here is a short description of XG3 Extreme G Racing.

            Here's a screenshot as well:

You didn't exclude multiplatform games from the list, Asher. It would have made my life much harder if you had.

Yes, but the GC has the advantage of being cheaper.

Not if you plan to take it online (as I will).

Nintendo is going to allow you to do that soon as well.

Yes, but it won't be cheaper then since you gotta buy extra stuff.

And Nintendo's taking a hands off policy. They're going to sell a modem and ethernet kit and say "there you go" to the developers and let them do whatever they want.

                        Rather like PC manufacturers.

Seriously though, I'd like to see developers setting up thier own Battle.net type services rather than deal with MSN Gaming Zone type services because, for me, it is easier to set up a good game on the developer services.

Most developers do not set up their own battle.net type services. On PCs, they rely on people setting up their own servers (on Linux, Windows, whatever -- usually free software) or peer to peer.

On consoles, you don't have the "make your own server" option.

What's left is publishers must front the cost of setting up, designing, and coding their own servers and most will probably end up charging a fee for this.

With Xbox Live, MS hosts all the fat-piped servers, allows game developers to tweak how gamers connect and use the service (effectively making their own "battlenet" if they want to -- I think Sega Sports is going to do this), but it's all hosted on 4 huge datacenters (2 in Washington State, 1 in London, 1 in Tokyo) with fat internet pipes.

All but premium games (Phantasy Star Online, SW: Galaxies, etc) are covered by the $50/year (which also gets you the voice headset) for Xbox Live.

You'll end up saving a helluva lot of money using this technique. Mark my words.

Plus on the GC/PS2, games are designed to use narrowband as well. Less stuff over the network means less features in online play. The slowest speed grade for Xbox Live is broadband. No modem laggers, woowoo.

Microsoft is spending $2B over five years on Xbox Live.
How much is Nintendo spending on making Gamecube online gaming fun?

Xbox Live will also offer additions (share your Tony Hawk levels online), expansion pack downloads, stats tracking across all games, a feature to quickly play a game right away, a feature to play a game against someone with the same skill level, mandatory support of the voice communicator, etc.

Asher: The online market for consoles is still an unproven and risky market and I wouldn't be suprised if Nintendo wasn't going to spend near as much Microsoft in this area in order to play it safe. Also according to you it seems to be about to intoduce console gamers to the concept of patches, which won't be a good thing to a group of people unaccostomed to the concept.

Thankfully, I don't care about online console gaming. As such it doesn't affect me.

You can't "patch" Xbox games, you can append to. There's a distinct difference.

Games must, before hand, add in hooks to allow for "booster packs" to be added. It's impossible to edit the game on the DVD, all that can be added is more content that can be stored on the hard drive (more levels, more characters, updated rosters and stats for sports games)
