It was "Sypho-Diaz", not "Syo-das". And yes, the Jedi Coundil seemed to be familiar with him.
I doubt Lucas would put in someone called 'Sypho-Diaz' NOT being Sidious without in depth explination of who the other dude was.

- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
There was an explaination; He was a Jedi Master who had apperently died ten years ago.
Who ordered a Clone Army? Too subtle for the hit you over your head, Lucas. Most people take it to mean Sidious.

Yeah? Then how come Jango Fett said he was hired by Tyrannus(Dooku)?
Because he WAS. Tyrannus works UNDER Sidious... or Sypho-Diaz. Take out the 'pho' in Sypho-Diaz.

hours? the small combined romulan-cardasian fleet only took minutes to destroy a planet.
Oh yeah the force is really believable.
You know the real problem with Trekies? They take the show too seriously. They talk about Trek being about science when they routinly ignore the laws of physics. The good Star Wars fans go to watch the movie. Not get a lesson about how evil the aliens of the week are and how they act like humans did back in the bad old days before enligtenment.
[side note]And have you noticed in Trek that everything is new? Nothing seems to wear out in Trek. [/side note]
I was joking when I said we should compare the two. They are two separate realities. Someone started listing how many shows trek has above Star Wars. I would rather have fewer quality shows than tons of garabage. Recycled garbage for that matter. I keep seeing the same episodes in Trek over and over again. And most of the movies are just 2 hour episodes anyway. In the end Lucus is falling for the same thing that the Trek handlers fell for. More is better. More special effects, more costumes, and more action figures. Everything but more substance.
Empire Strikes Back and The Wraith of Khan were two great movies. They were able to stand out in their series because they delt with human emotions and didnt rely too heavly on cheap thrills.
One more side note. Has anyone noticed how many times the Enterprise(take your pick which one) has simply stopped working for one reason or another? It seems like the Empire wouldn't have to do much more than just keep producing ships while the Federation crew kept their warp coil from exploding.
One more observation. Where is the cannon source for Federation ground troops? I have never seen any. I have see numerous starship crews go down for ground duty but never any heavy equipment. In fact the only infantry tools I have seen are from the Klingons. And they have the gall to beam into a ship or station and fight with blade weapons.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
Spray: You saw Fed ground troops during the Dominion War arc in Deep Space 9.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Dino: Are you talking about the episode where Sisko, Nog and others from DS9 meet up with Federations personel holding a base against Dominion attack and there are all of these subspace mines around that just appear randomly. Because if those are Federations ground troops they look very much like just another starship away team. If your talking about another eposide then I must have missed it( which is possible since I didnt see many of the later eposides)
The only thing comming close to large ground equipment that I have seen is the big laser type device used in TOS when Kirk and the crew tried to cut their way into a bunker in one of the earlier episodes. By TNG, DS9 era it looks like the federation has pretty much given up on dedicated ground troops.

Do RPG type weapons count as well?
Spray: In the Siege of AR-558, Sisko beamed down to AR-558 to find a Starfleet garrison, not a group of naval officers, who had held a Jem'Hadar communications relay for five months.

The picture with Worf is a definite improvement but is that just another piece of equipment available to a starship?
I remember the episode you are talking about. But in this picture the marine isn't using anything that isn't available to a starship crew. He isn't even dressed for ground combat. They are using the same weapons that TNG used in lots of their away missions. One would think that if the Federation thought that this planet was worth keeping they would at least station marines with heavy equipment on it. But I guess as long as the Dominion uses the Jam'Hadar in wave attacks with small arms then why should they field heavy weapons.

Oh and I know the one in front isn't a Marine. She is way hotter than Judzia though
