It's a strange behavioral type, sure, but how is it fundamentally different from liking the color blue, in terms of mental order?
What, exactly, do you consider a mental disorder?

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Perhaps the clergy needs a new frame of refernce on the subject. Now where can i find a biker gang willing to rape priests?

I think the problem beings not with celiby, but rather, with a total lack of qualified mental screening process for would be Priests.
AFAIK, pediophiles can be identifed through proper screening, and the chruch doesn't do this.
This latest ruling is just another example of the "do nothing" strategy of the catholic church.
Ramo, is it acceptable for someone to blow your head open with a shotgun?
That's the same kind of argument your attempting to make here.
There is a limit to how far personal freedom goes, it ends when you infringe on others, like children, for example.

Yeah, but Dan, those "rules" were long "forgotten" by the height of the Middle Ages. It is interesting to see the same canon against priest cohabitating with women other than their mothers, first seen at the Council of Nicea, being repeated at an ecumenical council at the turn of the first millenium.
Chris, you're attacking a straw man; I agree that people who act on pedophilia should be prosecuted (since children are incapable of giving their consent).
The debate is not over the legality of such actions, but whether pedophilia constitutes a mental disorder.

It was also meant to create an Elite level of priesthood... by disinfranchising the married priests. It was also meant to continue the land grab the Church was making in Europe... priests lands then fell to the Church...
There was also, at that time, a lot of interference of the Holy Roman Empire in matters of the Church, including the appointment of bishops, archbishops and the Pope. Obviously, the ecumenical councils at the time were dealing with many major problems and scandals partially caused by having married priests and bishops.

Behavioral health care professionals call disorders, illnesses or diseases that have prominent emotional, behavioral, and psychological symptoms mental disorders. These include substance use disorders and disorders associated with physical changes or illnesses, many of which directly affect the brain. For most of these disorders, however, physical causes have not been demonstrated or are poorly understood, even though biological treatments (e.g. drugs) may be effective in treating them. They may be distinguished from and classified separately from the personality disorders, or the term may be used in such a way as to include personality disorders

They are formally classified in the APA DSM IV-TR: DSM-IV-TR Diagnoses by Category.
BTW to give this debate some semblance of meaning, why don't you tell me why the behavior type I described in an earlier post is not fundamentally different from liking the color blue?

But you can be married and become a priest, which is what I said.
Inded ther is the possiblility of a married person becoming a priest, and it occurs rarely, but when someone does so HE IS STILL REQUIRED TO BECOME CELIBATE.

You're making the assertion; you back it up. I can't prove the non-existence of something.
mental illness n : the psychological state of someone who has emotional or behavioral problems serious enough to require psychiatric intervention
The DSM-IV-TR also looks to be like a good resource to constitute what does and does not constitute a mental disorder.
So, if I don't like a behavior, it's a mental disorder? That's an odd definition.
