It's a stupid rule... and has no foundation in the Bible or Jesus's teachings. It was implemented much later. In the old days... the first son was the heir to the fathers estate... the second son went into the priesthood... and any other sons usually went off to war to earn their own fame and fortune (the crusades were just an excuse to get rid of potentially troublesome sons)

By not allowing priests to marry... it solved the problem of the second son not having any children who could disrupt the claims of the children of the first son if he were to die before his father.

That isn't really a problem anymore

My daughter was molested. She reported this to higher authority who did nothing. Next, a friend of hers was raped.

You don't see a relationship between forced abstinence and pedofelia Dino?

These people are human. Theyre not robots. All of those repressed feelings and desires need to come out somewhere. And that somewhere is often in the helpless children.

Its like the guys who turn to sex with other guys in prison. Were they gay before they went in? No. But years upon years without any sexual contact or intimacy is enough to drive anyone nuts. And so people turn to whats available to them.

I'm saying the guys that fondle little boys probably would never had these desires if they weren't in the situation they were in. Its an enviornment problem for them, not a genetic one.

The legislation that effectively ended optional celibacy for priests came from the Second Lateran Council under Pope Innocent II in 1139.

No, I don't. In light of the fact that the % of pedofile priests likely matches the % in the population at large, I don't see how that leap can be made.

Probably not. Starchild will also tell you that they aren't gay now either.

Wether abstinence encourages paedophilia or not, they should be allowed to marry. A religious institution should be doing all it can to promote one of our highest ideals - family life.

I should also note that married men can become priests. They are only bared from becoming bishops.

Well if they're not gay, the same argument could be used to say that the priests arent pedophiles!

Theres certainly no way to get this number, but I don't agree with that assumption at all.

Being gay isn't a mental disorder. Pedophilia is and I've seen no scientific research that states that it is caused by abstenence.
