Alberta's votes may as well be tossed out. It doesn't matter that we consistently vote in someone OTHER than the majority governments. All that we get for it is the cold shoulder from the government. Since they don't NEED our votes, why should they bother doing what the Albertan people want? The needs of Alberta are secondary to the needs of Ontario and Quebec, where their votes come from.
Don't you see that? Open your eyes. Things need to change, before you alienate more people.
I really hate to continually rain on your parade Asher, but...
Mulroney's power base was Alberta and Quebec. His government is one where Alberta had tremendous influence. What is ironic is that Reform came about in reaction to his government. Heh.
Refoooooorm.
Did I do it right?

KH, I'm advocating changing the system.
You're saying we can't change the system because "our system doesn't work like that", in so many words
No, I'm saying that I don't want to give the smaller provinces any more representation than they already have, because there's no historical reason to do so.

Such complete and utter bull****.
It's completely amazing how arrogant you can be when you're the one sitting in the majority.
Your entire argument comes down to "I don't want to give them more rights since I like how things are going now and I'm in the majority."
"The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Mulroney was a JOKE.
He was from Quebec, first of all.
Second of all, he introduced the GST. What kind of conservative would do that?!
Argh, the man was a liberal in disguise.

No, I'm not in the majority. I don't vote Liberal.
What you're saying is that smaller provinces deserve a voice larger than their population would warrant. I'm saying that they don't. 1 vote = 1 vote = 1 vote no matter where you live. At least, that's what we should shoot for.

Alberta makes up, what, 15% of the entire GDP?
Alberta gets, what, 5% of the voting power?
What I'm saying is the current government is ignoring Alberta, and you think that's fine since most of the country likes it how it is.
By your logic it's okay to have slavery as long as you let everyone vote. Who cares that the 10% of the population votes against slavery because they're subject to slavery themselves? Most of the country wants slavery. By all means, let's have slavery!

It was bad enough when the Quebecers called themselves the white ******s of North America, but Albertans calling themselves slaves really take the case.

I'm not calling Albertan slaves.
I was creating an example on voting. And it's the exact same principle, but KH is probably too dense to pick up on it.

Asher. Do you know what the GST replaced?
Yes.
The GST is evil, and the wholesale sales tax system was also evil.

The problem with your proposal is that if we accept that Alberta gets more power because it is economically richer, would it not open the door to the idea that the rich man deserves more votes than the poor man?
