Perhaps it doesn't matter when you talk with your American fellows but here can't really know which area are you refering to. FYROM or Macedonia?

No I was referring to the ethnic albanian rebels. Who operate in the Presevo valley in Southern Serbia, and in Macedonia. FRYOM is the federal republic of yugoslavia. I was being more specific.

What's your source for the spellcheck, paiktis22?

You're welcome to stay a few days in my condo, axi. But remember what the fiendish brits say: "Guests stink after 3 days!"

Does Tolkien count? He used alot of stuff from the Nordic mythology. That is if you are referring to mythology too, because pure history I don't know much about. I bet there isn't much to it, except from barbarian raids, until the Reformation.
I think the Reformation is too late. It's claimed that Irish munks came here 600 AD. They seem to have gone allover early. But the first christian kings were around 1000 AD. And it took some time for them and others to clean up their act. It always does.

Axi, I certaintly feel sad for the poor donkeys. Unfortunately the drug traffickers have no compassion for animals. Shame.
But more mines = no donkeys and it will stop

Lars, the source is the original inscription. I will try to find an internet source later on when I'll have time.

Stick to it, FG! Those Greeks need to learn to call it "Macedonia" and not "FYROM"!!

Jeez, the Mexicans learned to call It New Mexico...

you have to have greek fonts for this:

It's Praxis 17 -23. In the original Greek text

Äéüôé åíþ äéçñ÷üìçí êáé áíåèåþñïõí ôá óåâÜóìáôÜ óáò, åýñïí êáé âùìüí, åéò ôïí ïðïßïí åßíáé åðéãåãñáììÝíïí, ÁÃÍÙÓÔÙ ÈÅÙ. Åêåßíïí ëïéðüí ôïí ïðïßïí áãíïïýíôåò ëáôñåýåôå, ôïýôïí åãþ êçñýôôù ðñïò åóÜò.

                  AGNOSTO THEO
In the dotiki (datif?) tense (no article). It is open to interpretation. It tends to a definite article.

Literally it would mean: (to) unknown God.

I think owner of this site is from Macedonia

Hmm, Markos is not a very usual Macedonian name, that must be his cover or something

btw., I remember summer 1994 (or 1995) when I was on scout Jamboree in Holland... when Greeks had their day (eveyone had some sort of celebration day) they gave around badges saying "macedonia is greece" ... bah, pathetic, to involve kids in politics.

I demand Greece stops 'FYROM' nonsense right away

"A major campaign will soon be underway to inform the rest of the Balkans about the truth concerning the sections of the Macedonian people in Serbia, Greece and Bulgaria who were divided and ENSLAVED after the Balkan Wars. The leading Macedonian nationalist parties, in their desire to see a larger Macedonia, made no secret of their intention to bring these territories back within the sovereign state, and do not hide their determination that it is only a matter of days before the power of Macedonia redraws the borders of Bulgaria, Greece and Serbia."

He probably said that casualy or as a joke.

Really paiktis22, no need to be afraid of the Macedonian hordes to overrun your city-states

I mean it is as if saying that Vatican is not going to tolerate all those churches in Rome that are under Italian occupation and that will soon unite them... what can they do? Macedonians that is? They are so small and surrounded by bigger countires...

Macedonia is a historical, cultural, and geographic area of the Balkan Peninsula with varying opinions of its extent, in what is now northern Greece, Southern Skopji (FYROM), maybe extending into southeastern Albania and southwestern Bugaria. The Kingdom of Macedonia was formed and consolidated out of tribal villages by Alexander's granfather and father. There was a similar Kingdom of Epirus fromed in Albania in the same period. The population at that time was Greeks and Hellenized Illyrians & Thracians. It was a kingdom only for a short while before Alexander created his cosmopolitan Hellenized empire, which then broke up. Phillips capital (for only a short time, Alexander's) was Pella, which never became a significant size city. Thew population of the area has been very much mixed up in the 2300 years since then: Romans, Dacians, Vlachs, Goths, Turks, Serbs, Bulgars etc.
