    Everything has calmed down.

Umm, I noticed the clashes are getting more isolated and there are more peaceful demostrations besides one in Plaza de Mayo... where police started to fire rubber bullets. State of Siege technically gives the Army power to come out and stop this disobedience. Cavallo and a large part of De La Rua's government has resigned. I am not sure if there is anybody to replace the Economic Minister Domingo Cavallo because he was one of the best. If this does get worse believe me the military will get a chance to topple the current government.
For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

      Blighty = Britain.

And if the military try and place a foot outside their barracks, the people will chase them back to blighty!

Did Britain send a peacekeeping force then?
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Breaking news is that De La Rua has just stepped down. The revolts broke the government, basically.

The Argentine people are already the loser in what has happened. They continue a prcedent for government by thuggery. They failed to respect the rule of law in not using the constitutional methods for changing government. This does not bode well, but then people tend to get the governments they deserve.......

No. The people are oppressed by an unjust government that has the support of many including the US. They cannot be help responsible for a currupt semi-dictatoric government because they cannot choose a socialist government that would make their lives better (like Cuba's state of life is better than any other Latin American). And that because foreign powers intervene in internal matters of Argentina and to a degree impose their own chosen governments.

The help of other countries who are fearful of what Argentina may become (namely socialist) are they ones who have the blood of what happens in their hands and are the ones to be persecuted and punished. (no matter how many years pass).

Any person who does not suffer from a severe form of mental retardation should be able to see why that is not a valid comparison- not that you'd let that get in the way of your pathetic little troll. Argentina was a democracy. The Colonies lacked representation in parliament, and even in Britain itself it wasn't that democratic. The colonies tried to negotiate with the London government, but when we sent the King the olive branch petition he threw it out angrily. Furthermore, our Locke-ian natural rights were not being honored. Argentina is a democracy, and the people who have destabalized it are people anrgy over the government not putting forth tariffs.

                    "Cuba's state of life"

Cuba is a repressive totaltarian dictatorship, hardly a model for anyone who supports freedom to emulate.

What has happened was the fairly and democratically elected president has been made to resign practically by force. This is a black day for democracy in Latin America.

Too ignorant to produce an argument, poor paitkis reverts to insults. It's a shame we couldn't have had a communist from Turkey instead, because then we could have a rational discussion.

                          You both are wrong.
Democracy doesn´t function here... it turns klepocratic. Socialist pig dogs steal money by bailing out loans. It wasn´t the convertibility, it wasn´t Cavallo, it wasn´t De La Rua, it was crooks that De La Rua surrounded himself by. It was crooks in the congress. The Peronists are taking advantage of this situation.

Uh no. This (ex) "unjust" government doesn't have the support of anybody you nimwit.

You really want to know who is taking over? You will be balling your eyes out. Duhalde. That money-stealing crook... he is the biggest crook in this country and it is so damn obvious. That Peronist Socialist crackpot has several nice apartments and property around.

A socialist welfare state? WAKE UP YOU DUMB PERSON, THIS COUNTRY IS ON THE BRINK OF BANKRUPTCY FOR OVER EXPENDITURE ON WELFARE, I GUESS YOU WANT TO DOUBLE ITS DEFICIT.

what's the use? you are a hopeless case. The ideal terrorist target. Cuba's higher quality of life leaves you unimpressed because they are anti-america. The fact that they have their self respect means nothing to you. The fact that the vast majority fo Cubans supprot Castro also means nothing to you. You prefer gazing at the pathetic son snatchers of Miami to satisfy your own ignorance.

On the other hand, you support a true turkish dictatorship and the kurdish suffering that this entails just because they are pro - US.

Tell me why should I spend a sec talking to you?

Note: Do a search on Argentina's History. From 1939-1975 there were over 30 coup attempts.

You think so... why not tell that to the million cubans living in Flordia fleeing the Castro dictatorship?

The vast majority of Cubans support Castro? Sure.. that is brainwashing. The vast majority don't. When Castro dies, which seems soon, there will be a democratic future for that country.
