Hows the ability to pirate looking on the Xbox? It has the dreamcast components which made it a good piracy machine, I reckon the Roms are bigger tho anyone know?

So what you're saying is you want rehashed games until the end of time?

no, and the only noticable developer I found out of the sports sector was Ubi Soft.
Well, you obviously don't play many games then.
Small companies like Electronic Arts (only the largest and arguably best sports game maker out there) are hard to miss...

sorry to dissapoint you ash, but if you haven't realized it already, I don't piss away money.
Sorry, don't you own a Mac?

they should have speakers, a keyboard, a monitor, and a mouse too.
        For console gaming? Hah.

        1) better control
        2) more input options
        3) improved sound
        4) better image quality.
        5) etc, etc.
How does a monitor give you a better image quality? The Xbox outputs to 1920x1080 as a maximum, that's better than many monitors out there.
Better control? For console games, give me a controller over a mouse or keyboard any day.
Improved sound?! How do you figure?! I'd rather have the sound go through my Pioneer audio receiver & 620 watt 5.1 Nuance speakers than through 10-watt PC speakers.

Keyboards and mice generally aren't useful for console games. It's a different game market than a PC is.

--"You should go in and look at the Slashdot thread"

Asher, the kiosk machine stories is secondary to my point. My primary source of information on this is a group of people programming the things. I think they've got better information than you do on the subject.

--"hat because companies beta test their games before shipping you got a bunch of experience with the controller?"

That I've spoken with those who have. This isn't a sweeping leap of logic or anything. Then again, we all know whatever cognitive funcitons you have shut down in the presence of any story involving Microsoft.

Like I said before, I don't game enough to buy new consoles, so this is pretty much a moot argument. Even if I were, my taste runs towards RPGs, so I'd be getting the PSX2. You've already admitted that the X-Box is weak in this area. I have not seen any game planned on the X-Box that interests me except the new Oddworld. Halo did, but then I got to hear about it from people who have actually played it. Two games isn't anywhere near enough to base a console purchase on.

They don't even use the same machine, actually.
They come out of different assembly plants, and until very recently weren't actually the final hardware either.

Oh, and feel free to cite some people I could talk to and/or some articles, else it's as valid as me commenting on my sock color.

Funny how the courts ended up agreeing with me, but we'll avoid that in this thread.

Again, "your friends" tell you this. Who can you direct me to? Again...

              again:

              who is square developing for?

              oh, the ps2.

              hm...

because i like computers much more than consoles,

and because i like square games and have little use for other console games, which tend to require less thought...

              which camp am i in?

              ps2.

              and pc.

damn, damn square and ea for not bringing more of their games to the pc.

i mean, buying a console for usd200+ is such a waste.

[10.18.00] » Final Fantasy XI and PlayOnline service Xbox-bound.

IT Pro, a technology subsidiary of the Nihon Keizai Shimbun, is reporting that Square has confirmed they are developing Final Fantasy XI for the Xbox. According to the Nikkei's sources, Final Fantasy X will remain a PS2 exclusive, but Final Fantasy XI and the PlayOnline service will be coming to Xbox sometime in summer 2001. The Xbox versions of Final Fantasy XI and PlayOnline will be cross-compatible with the PS2 versions. Final Fantasy XI is already in development for the Xbox on Microsoft's XDKs. Square got the XDKs this summer, but had some difficulty with them, as the hardware was not yet finalized and the documentation was entirely in English. Both problems have been resolved, however, and Square is advancing with development.

Naoto Yoshioka, an Advanced Technology Group Manager at Microsoft, said "I can't confirm or deny anything right now, but getting killer content like FF is Microsoft's major goal right now. Nothing would make us happier right now than Square announcing an Xbox version (of FF)."

A spokesman for Square said "We have not made any official statements about entering the Xbox field. We cannot comment about the release of an Xbox FF."

More details about Square's Xbox involvement are sure to be released soon. Thanks to Kevin Gifford of Video Senki for translation assistance.

There's a game coming out next year by an individual named Peter Moleyneux (I hav no idea how to spell his last name), called Project Ego, that would strike all of the FF crowd. Apparently in this game you will age, your actions will have consequences, etc. Granted it remains to be seen if this thing is actually released next year or the year after. Oh this is for the X-Box exculsively... can't port it over to the other consoles as there is no hard drive.

                      what are you talking about?

I'm saying console gaming ****s because original titles, especially on systems like dreamcast, were shot down by the market in favor of boring sequels and marketing garbage. I'm sure PC games and art and music or whatever have the flaw to some extent, but in the videogame industry it's painfully obvious.

Well, you obviously don't play many games then.

actually EA has gone down the crapper recently with its football and basketball franchises. the only thing it has is hockey, and a few movie rights here and there...

Sorry, don't you own a Mac?
yeah, but it was a gift from a neighbor who runs a computer shop nearby.

in any event, you know as well as I do that's a separate issue that's being argued in another thread - keep the mac/pc stuff there...

                      For console gaming? Hah.
you've already got a hard drive.

first off, not everyone has that kind of setup. I sure as hell don't.

secondly, give me a cheap $15-25 memory card any day over that built in waste of money (it doesn't come free, I'm assuming). I'm paying for a hard drive I don't need, and the 8GB storage space is hard to judge anyway. (how much room does a saved xbox game take up?)

also, just out of curiosity, is xbox internet access available on launch? and isn't it broadband exclusive?

really, why there's a hard drive on the thing is beyond me.

                        Asher, re FF11:
                        a) Not even sure Square will bring it out for XBox. It's not much confirmation if spokesmen refuse to comment.
                        b) FF11 isn't exactly a tested product yet. I have rather grim expectations for it... maybe it'll be good, maybe not. Nothing I've heard so far is encouraging. It's not an auto-buy for me, and not for a lot of people I suspect.
                        c) Most importantly, FF11 will come out concurrently on PC. Why bother getting a console to play it when you can do it on your PC? If I do buy it, that'll be where.
                        All syllogisms have three parts.
Therefore this is not a syllogism.

you've already got a hard drive.
Yeah, which is USEFUL for console gaming. You act like you can use the HD to store your Word documents or something. You can't.

Actually, Microsoft pretty much picks up the cost for it. It's the same price as ths PS2, but its cost is higher.
That's why MS loses so much on each console.
And, btw, you can buy memory cards for Xbox too.

also, just out of curiosity, is xbox internet access available on launch? and isn't it broadband exclusive?
No, it hooks up to any ethernet jack.
I can plug it into my Switched Hub and use @Home to access the internet on it.

really, why there's a hard drive on the thing is beyond me.
Somehow that doesn't surprise me. Logic is a tad hard for you to grasp.
But you should ***** at Nintendo about that, then. It was their idea years ago, and they released the N64 hard drive in Japan.

                            ---------

Anyway, I bit the bullet and bought an Xbox today.
I played it for about 4 hours so far, and let me just say: It definitely kicks some ass.
It came with Halo and Dead or Alive 3. Halo is better than DOA3, IMO. Very very addictive!
Both games look simply incredibly in 1080i! No jaggies ANYWHERE, beautiful and not choppy at all.
I enabled Dolby Digital 5.1 in Halo, and it was quite the experience. Walking down in the carverns you can hear echos in positional surround sound, gunfire in surround sound, the subwoofer kicking up when you drive the little car around.

As for the controller: What the hell is wrong with it?
It feels natural to hold it, I can easily use all of the buttons without feeling awkward, and you can turn off the rumbling in the options. I didn't get ANY feeling of "Nintendo Thumb" that I got when using the PS1/PS2/N64 controllers. Maybe I would have to play longer to find out, but it seems downright awesome.

Mark me down for a glowing Xbox review.

black and white sold well, as did civ, etc.

                              And F1, FIFA, etc.

there's a soccer game sequel on the xbox?! I can't wait. again, console gaming is going downhill. never much maturity or complexity in the software.

Yeah, which is USEFUL for console gaming. You act like you can use the HD to store your Word documents or something. You can't.
how much space does a save game take up?

you won't be able to download demos on the thing or whatever. it's vaporware at the moment that will take far too long to implement. dreamcast had all kinds of things it wanted to put in since launch (vmu games, downloadable patches, etc) that never fully made the cut even two years after release.

glad to see you got it today, but I'm looking for something a little more in depth from such an MS zealot.
