That's wierd. However, you're STILL getting shafted, since you're a resident of Ontario, and the services you get will be slightly less. It's not really noticeable, but nothing to gloat about, that's for sure. (Stupid province vs. province rivalry )

I don't see how the services I get are any less.

Price regulation from the government would make the road cheaper, which would mean busier, which would mean slower.

Price regulation won't make it necessarily cheaper. In fact, if govt. would always want to make these things cheaper, they wouldn't allow the construction of a toll road in the first place.

The reason they are asking for price regulation is they claim it's too expensive.

Well, it may be cheaper now, or higher later. In any case, the reason for this is that they want to move as much people as possible through that highway, and that is good for both you, and the province, generally. That's why they regulate prices, you know.

It's not good for me to put more people on that highway.

I like the speed of it being open, not crowded.

Well, it doesn't have to be empty to be fast. The Autobahns are full of cars.

If it gets congested, it's not fast...

                  See: Hwy 401.

20 lanes and still slow as ****.

Yeah, well, a highway will get empty at 3.5CDN for 25 kms...

                        And well worth it.

It takes me over 3 hours to get from Toronto to Waterloo fridays @ 4pm with the 401, and 1 hour with the 407 + 401 (using the 407 to bypass the most congested part of the 401).

For the $6 per trip it costs me, I find it quite worth it.

Not to mention the superiority of the road in the winter, since it's plowed, salted, or sanded far more often and frequently than the 401, and is fully lit at night.

Well, I always say that if the only reasonable way to commute is a toll road, something is ****ed. WRG to toll roads, I say that at least let them regulate it, and/or set floating tolls, that would drop to zero at no-rush hours.

Btw, how much do you pay for a liter, and what is the km/liter ration on that Mazda 3 of yours?

Price is currently ~$0.75/litre, and I get about 30mpg or 12-13 km/L on average.

It would be higher if I got the smaller 2L engine instead of the 2.3L.

                                what about Portland?

or are you not going up I5?
i dont think portland is a major city center.

When I was in college at Santa Barbara I used to leave around midnight so I could sail through LA. I'd go about 90mph and go from SD to Santa Barbara in 3 hours.
thats nuts. 3 hrs from SB to SD? 90 mph. you unsafe driver you.
