and theres no major urban centers between seattle and san francisco. yeah, its only 65 mph average, but thats still 12 hours straight.

80 mph would be a better average tho (130 kph)

        That's an okay price, but..

        From the Toronto Star:

Ernest Varosi used to think a "bunch of stupid people" ran the Highway 407 toll road, until lawyers and collection agencies got involved.

Varosi insisted last night he paid his 407 bill for $119 four years ago but had kept getting billed. A 407 representative told him not to worry.

"Then I started getting letters from lawyers. That's serious. They were asking for money that was not owed to them. ... That's no joke."

Varosi's was one of about a dozen stories of 407 billing nightmares told last night at Seneca College, where Eglinton-Lawrence MPP Mike Colle opened what the government called "an investigative review of the 407 ETR's billing and customer service practices."

Anne Hart, of the Midwestern Ontario Better Business Bureau, said her Kitchener office has had 71 written and 150 phone complaints about the 407. But they've stopped taking complaints "because the 407 has failed to respond to us."

She said one man was billed $1,114 and is battling collection agencies, but "he doesn't have a car and doesn't even drive."

Sounds like for some reason someone else's license plate is registered to him?

It is in Canada, perhaps, but here we pay 4 USD for some 90 kms....

Is that highway BOT, or completely private?

              What's BOT?

The road is completely private right now. There is a legal battle between the inept Ontario government and 407ETR, but 407ETR is winning.

Ontario wants to regulate its pricing, but apparently that wasn't in the contract.

I took the 5 to the Santa Monica Freeway to the SD freeway. there wasnt even any traffic around the airport.

did i get lucky or what? i mean, this is the sunday night after thanksgiving.
                  Wow, that is fast.

When I was in college at Santa Barbara I used to leave around midnight so I could sail through LA. I'd go about 90mph and go from SD to Santa Barbara in 3 hours.

                    Build-Operate-Transfer.

One builds it, operates it for X years, and then it's transferred to government, free of charge. It seems that the government of Ontario was shafted even more!

The part in LA and northern Orange County can be like a parking lot. I've literally seen people pull out their portable gas powered grills and have BBQs while waiting in freeway traffic.

                        Yes, they are quite stupid.

Not every province can be as with it as Klein's government.

Don't be so proud of it, you're shafted because of it, as well...

Not really, the lower the pricing the more people on it.

I think it's quite ideal right now for me.

I am not just talking about the cost regulation. I am talking about your government losing assets, and through this, you losing money.

It's not my government, I still vote in the Alberta elections and am considered a resident of Alberta, and pay Alberta taxes.
