  • Smashin on i-5

yesterday, on a sunday nite, i got from grapevine to SD in just under three hours. i was at the base of grapevine at just after 3.30 pm and got to SD at 6.30 pm. that is the fastest i have ever gone through LA in a high traffic situation. I took the 5 to the Santa Monica Freeway to the SD freeway. there wasnt even any traffic around the airport.

did i get lucky or what? i mean, this is the sunday night after thanksgiving.

I went from the middle of Waterloo to Toronto in 50 minutes flat last night.

    160km/h the whole way (100mph).

At one point on the 407 (I was in the middle of 3 lanes and not a car in sight, and a perfectly straight road in dry conditions), I pushed it up to 200km/h before I decided that was a bit too fast if I got a ticket.

yeah, but the average speed wasnt that fast for me (about 70 mph, or 110 kph (?.) going over the grapevine and LA north of the 210 was slow (50 - 65 mph) cuz there was an accident, but once in LA on the 5 and the 405, there were stretches of 80 to 90.

if i was to time it from the 210 to SD the average speed would have been considerably higher. it was just amazing how little traffic there was. i mean, the highway was full of cars but everyone was doing 60 - 90 mph.

Asher, dude, trust me, 407 is nothing compared to I-5. It can be a pure nightmare.

LoA, as long as you remember at least in here cops have detectors of detectors. They REALLY don't like those, so they won't save you from the harshest possible fines when they get you with one of those babies.

407, no, but the the stretch of of the 401 between (IIRC) the 427 and the DVP here in Toronto is the second busiest stretch of freeway in North America after either the I-5 or 405 in LA (can't remember which).

And I'm on it twice a day. Fortunately, going "against the grain" though, so it's not so terrible.

In normal conditions it takes me 30-40 minutes to drive home, but occasionally I leave very late and make it in about 20 minutes (doing about the same speed as Asher above).

I just looked it up - apparently it's now the busiest, passing the Santa Monica Freeway in LA, according to wikipedia.

The 401 (and on into the 40 in Quebec) is amazing for driving fast. If you're going 140 then people are passing you pretty steadily. Speed limit is 100...
