I am an SDA

I don't go that often, but I do pray daily and try to keep the Sabbath

I also try to have a worship every Sabbath, even if it is by myself

I disagree with my church on some points, I just agree with it on a number of important points

Sunday before the election was one of the most stirring.

During the ceremony we offer up prayers to be siad.

One of the lesbian members made an impassioned plea. Her plea was simply for strength. Seems her house was targetted because she had signs promoting the vote NO on the gay marriage amendment in her yard. She didn't ask member to vote one way or the other, she didn't ask that others be inspired by God to vote one way or the other, she resigned herself knowing that it was unlikely the amednment wouldn't pass, she didn't ask for the offenders to be punished. All she asked for was the strength to bear.

If I was on the fence for voting for Bush at that point, I knew I could not after hearing that plea.

After the service my wife and I both resolved to vote Libertarian and did so.

Welcome to club Libertarian! I voted Libertarian as well, though my girlfriend (who voted for Nader last time) went over the dark side and voted for Kerry.

To the extent that there may be a supernatural force out there, I very much doubt it has anything to do with any of the organized religions we humans have created. Religion is often used as a crutch - sometimes spiritual, other times mental (no need to actually THINK, just quote some scripture, yay!). Furthermore, religious people have a bad habit of trying to ram their beliefs down other people's throats - and I'm talking over the span of human history, not just right here and now (it's clearly much better now). Thus, any inclination towards spirituality that I might have would not lead me to a church/synagoge/mosque/etc. Not that I've had any to this point.

I'm not really sure that is an accurate portrait of American spirituality, but I for one find the concept of just believing whatever religion you are spoonfed as a kid difficult to understand. There are lots of religions out there. If you were a spiritual person, why wouldn't you want to investigate the different religions and choose which one makes the most sense to you (aka "The TRUTH")?

Its a strange concept freedom of religion. One that existed pre-USA but helped the formation of the US.

My personal theological approach is largely influenced by the approach of Franz Rosenzwieg, especially as interpreted and modified by Emil Fackenheim, though with some influence from Mordechai Kaplan and Eugene Borowitz, among others.

Very true. I think that just because a person converts, doesn't mean that they've 'found a better deal,' but rather, that they've hopefully come to a better understanding.

I was raised Catholic, but since I have not been actively part of the Catholic faith since I was 18, I consider myself to be a non-denominational Christian.
