Because centrist Democrats like Clinton aren't Republicans. Because the democrats are going to work for the average man and not the big corporations, because the Democrats are going to help you and your family get the education you need in the modern world, because the centrists are going to be strong on defense but not give away billions to defense contractors who don't perform, because unlike the neo-cons the centrists know how to balance the budget, because centrist Democrats are going to put people first along with small businesses and entrepreneurs.

It doesn’t hurt that the centrists can work successfully with our allies to go after Al Qaeda and we won’t take our eye off of Al Qaeda tell the job is done and OBL is swinging from a tree.

What is socialist about trying to start paying down the debt? What is socialist about trying to balance the budget?
I was talking about high taxes and more social programs.

My post wasn't about that. I was responding to an earlier post re: balancing the budget under Clinton.

It was the only era of fiscal sanity (not responsibility... I won't go that far) that I can recall (born in '76). And it wasn't enough.

              Now we're back to insanity.

And what is Bush exactly? an ex-governor of a universally laughed-at state, known in diplomatic circles for his ignorance.

Most foreign affairs are done through professional and competent diplomats, so as long as the president sets intelligent guidelines his boys will do the job.

Please reread the part about the ideal candidate being a fiscal conservative. Yes, it does help if you argue about what people say and not what you wish they'd say.

I figure it will be at least another 20 years before we see a female president.
I would have disagreed with you never statement but you already did yourself.
20 year timeframe or something like that seems reasonnable to me, with what I know of US politics.

I would be a bit more cautious, and say at least in the next 3 elections, (12 years) there will be no woman president.

George Lakoff has written a couple excellent books on this, which I highly recommend.
Fiscal Responsibility. However the Democrats would have to establish that they can indeed do that.

We would need the the "Logan's Run" constitutional amendment.
