    Or rather Clinton + a Republican Congress did it.

    And they didn't do nearly enough.

      Maybe, but they did about what they could get away with - remember, the US is significantly more conservative in Europe. Socialism doesn't play well in the States.

        Harry Reid is a kick ass choice, the Cataclysm you speak of is much closer then you think, and he'd be an excellent answer to it.

            What is socialist about trying to start paying down the debt? What is socialist about trying to balance the budget?

            WTF?

                Keynesian capitalism != socialism

                It's not unsocialist to try and get spending and debts under control. It's a question of goals. Sometimes spedning over the budget might be a good idea, at other times payng it off might be a good idea.

                  Spending over the budget is so rarely a good idea that it's silly how many times the US does it.

                  Che--what were vote totals for socialists in the states? Is there a list somewhere?

                      I don't know why you guys want to give up on the south. The last two democratic presidents elected were Jimmy Carter: Georgia and Bill Clinton: Arkansas. I think that says something for the southern strategy. The ones that lost were Walter Mondale: Minnesota, Michael Dukakis: Massachusetts, Al Gore: Tennessee and John Kerry: Massachusetts. Let's not forget Gore won the popular vote. The southern strategy is a sound one. All of the yanks were soundly defeated except for Kerry. The only reason he came close was because of the anybody but Bush crowd.

                        good point. Don't forget LBJ was elected, he's from Texas. Though he would have lost his second re-election had he ran. But there were other reasons for that.

                            Thanks, I couldn't remember if LBJ ever ran. I only remembered him not running in '68.

                              LBJ would have won the general election in 1968- probalby RFK too- Humphrey (no great candidate) lost by a very narrow margin to Nixon, and that was with the South breaking of for Wallace.

                                In fact, I've had people bring her up and say they would vote for her (these were Bush voters saying this.) I am going to go against all of you and say Hillary Clinton does indeed have considerable support.
                                I completely agree. I voted for Bush but I would vote for Hillary too. You guys should put Hillary as your candidate, she would win easy.
