Let's see, no evidence of looting. No trucks able to carry the explosives away. Surveillance ever since occupation. GAP IN TIME since verification of existence and occupation by coalition. Hmmmm, yep, sirree, it just had to have been snuck out right under our noses. It is so logical!
Over the months that have happened since, and the general chaos, there has been plenty of time for the explosives to have been moved out piecemeal.

Again, this whole situations is indicative of incompetence somewhere. Bush, as Commander and Chief, is clearly ultimately responsible for this, doubly so since no has been diciplined in the time since we moved in. What you have said changes none of this.

        • You added a paragraph after it was posted. Not that it changed your argument really, since it was the same out of breath ranting, but just want to make sure you're not making things disappear without verification.

            Yep, more speculation.

Could be, but there is still no evidence that the explosives were lifted under the control of the coalition.

                  • I want to know how a reporter and a cameraman would be qualified to say whether or not those explosives were there. Were they munitions experts?

                    • Or how they could say so, without anyone having conducted a search by their own admission.

                      • Why don't people read other's posts?

Ramo already gave us a succinct summary of this "debate"

                        So there was no search.

                        Let's summarize:
-The Allawi gov't contradicts the assertion that the explosives were moved before we got there.
-The White House contradicts this assertion.
-A Pentagon source familiar with the situation contradicts this assertion.
-The IAEA confirmed that the explosives were there in January, and confirmed that site was still sealed a week before the war started.
-The "report" about the search was leaked by Drudge, and MSNBC itself didn't actually publish their story until everyone else started to carry it.
-The NBC story (or rather, the second-hand account) doesn't provide any sources, whatsoever.
-And the money shot is, a member of the the NBC crew embedded in the unit confirmed there was no search.

Except for the statements by the Iraqi interim government to the IAEA explaining the disappearence.

                          • Che, the site was listed as a WMD site for the HMX, etc., explosives. I would be surprised if the 101st didn't know that at the time they occupied the site.

Even so, the statement by the IAEA that attributed the cause of the explosives being missing to US neglect is just a bit much if, as it appears, the explosives were not there at the time our troops arrived. What are they, Kerry supporters? They certainly are not honest.

The second paragraph is based on an assertion contradicted now even by the supposed source, who essentially says he and the troops who got there were not competent to make any such finding. It also, as Ramo pointed out, contradicts the statements of the US and current Iraqi governments on the issue.

                              • In any case, the 101st weren't there to inspect the site, at best they were there to secure it. There is a big difference. The latter doesn't require them knowing all the details of what they are securing.
