I didn't make the thread to discuss the former occupation of the Emporer.

I'm just discussing the length of the Empire. It just doesn't fit.
but the Emperor was the only Emperor they had i thought...

oh and in Star Trek, it's United Federation of Planets... in andromeda, they have the Commonwealth but it's really the Systems Commonwealth. and so on and so forth... they got to be the Republic and Empire of something...

Throw a Galactic in front of Republic and Empire if it makes you feel better, but it's not really necessary. When it encompasses everything known to its citizens, it can easily just be The Republic or The Empire.

Oh, and you can't call it The Democracy. TPM seems to imply that on some worlds (like Naboo), the royalty of the planet is represented in the Senate. Most of those monarch representatives probably are not elected by the people.

Actually, I wasn't thinking about ST when I posted that, but you support my point - you never see a country called the "Democracy of ________".

The "royalty" of Naboo were elected.

How often do you think that royalty would be elected?

How many planets were ruled by royalty?

Our only example of it is Naboo.

There are some "democratic republics" though, which are anything but.

In a Republic of 1000 planets, how many have we seen? Like 5? Even if you count the books, they probably don't come close to 10% of the planets in the Old Republic.

Furthermore, we don't really know the political society of Tatooine (all we know is that the Hutts control it, but I don't think it is by democratic means), Yavin IV, etc.

                        • At the time of the 1st episode Queen Amadala was fairly young, just a teenager, episode 2 took place a mere 9 or 10 years later and she had already finished her term as queen and had been serving as senator for a couple of years, so the term of a Naboo queen must not have been very long.

Wasn't Tatooine controlled by the Hutts in episode 1?

They were really building up his character, and a ton of foreshadowing that he'd be really important, and then he just... dies. Poof. WTF?
How could they kill of Anakin? He becomes Darth Vader and Lucas kills him off in episode 6. How could they possibly have the nerve to kill off an original character in any time or manner other than that related by original author?
