Those proto-star destroyers viewed at the end of AOTC would be my point. How do you get from a small-med sized landing craft to a gigantic battleship like 50 times the size within 20 years? If the designs for all these ships have been in the works the whole time, why have all these proto-ships? Why not just build the real thing?

I think the understanding must be that yes, these proto-ships were underdesign and construction in preperation for this time when they were actually used, but any ships after that were developed after that. Also, besides general shape I doubt there would be much real similarity between the wedge shaped landing craft and real star destroyers.

As for the dating, I think the time is fairly clear as we have the life of Luke & Leia as certainties. Luke was like 19 in episode 4. I'm thinking they were conceived when Anakin and Amadala were off on that vacation and got married in AOTC. So 19-20 years between that point and A New Hope.

I don't know that I agree with this (although we would need to see more evidence eithier way). We know that the twins were immediately removed from the situation and hidden away due to Anakin's conversion to the dark side. I would think that this would be some time in the future from their honeymoon (more than the obvious 9 months it would take). Hopefully, the next episode will tell the tale.

Yea, i think all that will come to pass in the next movie. But I dunno how up for sha.gging Padme will be once Anakin puts on all the machinery. Unless she's into it.

It seemed from Ben's comments in the original trilogy like Anakin had actually been a good jedi for a fair amount of time. It seemed like Ani had been grown up when Ben first met him. I don't really see anything good about Ani in AotC.

All humans in the Milky Way are descendants of colonists from the SW Galaxy. And when the Milky Way or the Universe ends, people from here will travel to the beginning of the universe and colonize the SW Galaxy.

Seriously, maybe the TV series will show us what's happening there now.

Well, there were ships in comparable size. Such as the Dreadnaughts.

The Dreadnaughts were only half the size of an ISD.

We're talking Victory Class, not Imperial.

That's still only 2/3 the size.

so? why does it have to be any closer to that size?

Well the easy answer would be that the Republic felt it had no need for them since everything was peaceful and had been for a long time. They had the proto designs just in case.

Well, in the books, the Imperial Star Destroyer was predated by the Victory-class SD, constructed under orders of Palpatine during the last days of the Old Republic.

I thought I heard that Episode 3 takes place about 8-10 years after Episode 2 - at the end of the Clone Wars - that would certainly fit Anakin having been a good Jedi for a decent amount of time plus some weapons advancement since AOTC.

Plus 8-10 years of "emergency powers" rule could make it easier to transition to the Imperial style of government.

An interesting rumor I heard was that Chancellor Palpatine is actually the clone of Darth Siddious and that's why Yoda didn't suspect Palpatine - he didn't feel any Sith power in him - and that during ROTS - Siddious kills Palpatine and simply replaces him - THAT would perhaps be interesting at least

Don't advance that theory at on a star wars site or you will be hunted down and killed.
