For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

        I've never disputed that?

How would you ascertain the causal relationship empirically? It's not like a chemical reaction where you can isolate the reagents.

That practical considerations would make experiment difficult doesn't change the fact that it is an empirical problem.

        • There is no way you can talk to god (you are trying so hard to believe in something, and make something talk to yourself... you are hearing voices in your head).
Who says I hear voices in my head? He finds other ways to get my attention.

As for me talking to him, anyone can do so, there's no talent involved. That's what prayer is about. You stop, and talk to him.

The notion of god is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of.... I can't believe people choose to believe in god(s), there are so many better things in life then a human imagined being.
True, if he were imaginary and our own construct it would seem pretty silly. But if he's God, then it's not.

You just scream about god to get attention. That's what I think. Prayer is just a cry for attention. You are not praying for anything. There isn't anything there... just your own desperation in wanting something to be there.

UR says it's impossible for people to see God, unlike New York.

It has nothing to do with you Gian.

And I certainly have not seen him.

Faith is just no substitute for truth. A good measure of the true value of faith can be discerned by a visit to any mental asylum.

I don't need to know sun exists in my heart to know it's there. I can't begin to fit the breadth and scope of the universe into my little brain. In my heart I can fit all kinds of little self-involved things.

Hearts are good, they pump blood, fill our chests, but they're only hearts.

As for purity... Life, by nature- is not about purity.

I have to scream in order for God to hear me?

You're right. After all that's what adoration, thanksgivings and contrition are all about.

Desparation? No, it's like a walk. I'm walking, and he walks with me, and we talk about how things are going. Sure sometimes it's rough, but othertimes are much more joyful.

Oh please.. don't speak semantics with me...
Why would we dream up a God that hates sin when we revel in it?

So all the believers are in asylums?

I'd try going to church if I were you. Might even out your perspective.

If you lived in a cave all your life, and never saw the sun, would you know that it exists?

Very true. Which is why we are given a new life, apart from our natural one, one that does not wither or decay.

I don't see how it accounts for blatant inconsistancies.
