palmtops are not billed full-fledged computing devices ala the imac. granted, i know of things like the oqo. these are an exception.

why? palmtops, like laptops, are designed to be portable. they are designed to have input built-into the device. therefore, they are not abominations.

an imac, however, is not designed be truly portable. it still has the regular power plug, and it still requires an external input method. therefore, it is an abomination.

Is it The Abomination That Will Cause Desolation?

perhaps the imac and i got off to the wrong foot.

i'll admit, the first time i saw one, i thought it was a toy.

bright blue and green and orange casings, an ugly form factor, and those damn annoying circle mice. however, once i realized you couldn't actually do anything to them, that was when the hate started.

if they'd at least been fully expandable, maybe i wouldn't hate them so. but they aren't; therefore, they are abominations.

              Not really.

MS has always been bad at patching security holes, has always tried to sit on problems until outsiders blew whistles on them. It's now worse, they are doing this monthly patch thing.

*nix has always been much faster at patching problems.

An iMac is not designed to be a computer in the conventional sense, Q^3. It is designed to be an appliance.

But his irrational hatred of the imac is a bit weird. It's a consumer level computer. Buying a Powermac would be ridiculous overkill for most people.

You can upgrade imacs if you wish. It's possible to put in a new hard drive
Very rarely does it make sense to replace a harddrive, unless it died.

More frequently, users decide they need more space and want to add an additional harddrive. Even simple things like this are not possible with the iMac.

I've got 3 HDs in my computer right now, with space for 3 more.

And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28

First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Yes it is, Asher. You can plug an external drive into one of the USB/Firewire ports. And if you want, you can add even more drives by daisy-chaining them.
