It is a fact that iMacs are abominations. It is not my opinion, it is the objective truth. My personal opinion just happens to coincide with the truth in this case.

If you want to be like that about it, I'll make this argument:
You think God is an absolute Truth. Other people think it's your opinion. They, however, are wrong.
Suck it up, man. In this case, with the iMacs, you're wrong.

This does not make the iMac "fully expandable". "Fully expandable" means that you can go into the machine, and add new components and modules. "Fully expandable" takes your notion of feature replaceability and potential upgradeability, as well as adding external peripherals, and then adds so much more.

It's the so much more part that the iMac cannot do.

    Therefore, the iMac sucks.

    Sigh.

It is such a waste of time debating with someone with such a closed-minded attitute.

You know what. Don't bother replying to my posts and be sure to PM me when you're ready to have an open-minded debate. Until then, hasta la vista, baby!

    HAVE A DAY.
<--- Quote by Former U.S. President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt
"And there will be strange events in the skies--signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And down here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides. The courage of many people will falter because of the fearful fate they see coming upon the earth, because the stability of the very heavens will be broken up. Then everyone will see the Son of Man arrive on the clouds with power and great glory. So when all these things begin to happen, stand straight and look up, for your salvation is near!" --Luke 21:25-28
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the call of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, all the Christians who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and remain with him forever. --1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Obviously you did it with a software RAID.

Try configuring a hardware RAID (using the RAID BIOS), and then getting Linux to recognize it...

Hint: You can't. It's an architectural limitation on Linux.

You can build RAIDs in Linux, but you can't access that RAID from outside of Linux...

Own goal: It's possible, and that's what some customers want.

As you likely don't know but probably should know, IBM promotes AIX as the optimal OS for mainframes.

They also sell way more AIX big-boxes than Linux.

            • The only reason Linux IS any good is because of all the support from IBM.

It appears that I could use the driver that came with the RAID card under Linux.

How would customers know that they can run Linux on S39 if IBM doesn't tell them? They would think that AIX is the only OS they could use, just like the Bad Old Days.

And Microsoft is the North Korea of computing.

I don't see your point. The imac is designed as a consumer computer for people who want an all in one, easy to use machine. It's pretty good at that.

People like Q Cubed think that everyone should use computers for what they want. Sure... and everyone should have a 16 wheeler to go shopping in.

                          Good job.

Now you tell me how to use a hardware RAID using the driver that came with the RAID card under Linux -- so you can dualboot with it.

now you're trying to tell me when to post. does this not get any better?

it is an article of faith to me that the imac sucks. i see it as the truth, as you see god as the truth. i find it offensive that you refuse to admit that some people can have beliefs that do not coincide with your own.

                            ===

And Microsoft is the North Korea of computing.

coming from a mac fanboi, i find this ridiculous.
anybody with half a brain knows that AOL is the North Korea of computing. Microsoft is just China.

I don't see your point. The imac is designed as a consumer computer for people who want an all in one, easy to use machine. It's pretty good at that.

Small, truly expandable computers can fit for that purpose.

People like Q Cubed think that everyone should use computers for what they want. Sure... and everyone should have a 16 wheeler to go shopping in.

false comparison. an imac is like a two-seater plymouth prowler with its hood sealed shut. it looks nice, it gets people where they want, but you can only change a few things, like color, maybe a spoiler or two, the rims, and, drastically, the whole hood section by taking it out and putting in a new one. even worse, it's not even that well-powered, having an anemic 4-cylinder engine.
so yeah, it's a "computer" but it doesn't do its job very well.
on the other hand, with a computer like a powermac g5 or an alienware box, you get a ferrari that you can replace and upgrade individually. that v8 engine not good enough? slap in a v16. the color and the rims not nice? change 'em. want a turbocharger? stick one in. want to add leather seats instead of the velour ones? put 'em in. hell, you could do that with even the yugos of the computing world, those retarded emachines, compaq, or hp boxes.

that's why those fit more along the lines of a "computer".

the choice is between a car that looks nice but sucks in service, or a car that can look nice, and can be fixed and updated.

btw, a sixteen-wheeler, if you're going to go by this, would be more like a RAID storage server, a SAN storage unit or something. again, something that's very useful, but only limited application to people. but not something that everyone gets
