Like a good capitalist he is renting them out-- Vel and Flubber make a long term deal where the Flubber family get long term usage and I think Vel is allowing others to sleep in them as part of a "free promotion"-- People love these things and he hopes to arrange long term rentals-- again on the barter system

Or conversely, perhaps he plans to offer free accomodations to people that perform work in some of Velco's enterprises.

Heck he can even give them to the "government" in lieu of taxes if a suitable valuation can be agreed

          • Right on, Master Flubber.

Everybody sleeps free at the outset. After all, labor is required to assemble them, and everyone is participating in that. Consider that the "Free Promotion" that Flubber mentioned. During the transitionary phase, while we're still getting ourselves sorted out, everybody has a place to stay.

This is not dissimilar to what I would have done had I been the hotel owners who forced people fleeing from the recent Florida Hurricane. Rather than upping the rates, as they did, I would foster tremendous goodwill on the island, by allowing everybody a comfortable place to stay.

And I am getting "paid" as it were...the compost toilets are collecting rent...and I intend to sell fertilizer to the agro companies...

As time goes by, and people begin to specialize toward one or other activity on the island, we can negotiate rents, or, said people can make their own indigenous housing.

Meanwhile, once those windmills are in operation, I'm gonna lease 'em to LoA if he's interested in establishing the Liberty Power Company. That'll start him off with 9k watts of 120ACV power, to be augmented by whatever native sources he can get up and running as time goes by.

Here's one of the little shacks I'll start offering to build, if nobody beats me to the punch...

                  • Have y'all seen a show called "Colonial House" on PBS? It's where a bunch of people and their families try to build a self-sustaining 17th century English colony on the East coast (with some initial supplies that a trading company is lending them for goods they will produce). It's pretty neat.

                    • I think I saw its precursor, Ramo...VERY cool show...(remembering one episode where the daughter of one of the families "cooked dinner" one night and used an entire month's supply of butter...OUCH!

EDIT: The precursor show was filmed in Montana and was set a bit later, historically...same principle tho.

                      • Frauds? I think not.

Of course, I can understand the jealousy. While your standing in the People's Bread Line waiting for the party bosses of Kidatopia to tell you how much bread is "fair" for you this week, we'll be kicking back in paradise.

Rent you a cottage if you'd like to come tho....
