  • Rallying Point: Liberty Island - Refugees from Kidatopia, report!

Since we're having such a good time fleeing from the Revolution, I figured we needed a new thread to celebrate in....given that our old thread just crossed the threshold....

    So....who we got so far:

Flubber, Lil' Flubber, Mrs. Flubber, Vel, DF, and the Gypsy Harem.....not a bad beginning....

not a fan of kidatopia. i can't do hard labour, and i'm not a fan of manual labor at all. i would, however, like to earn a living, and i don't see that happening in kidatopia.

Any ideas on how much stuff we'll be allowed to take with us?

Prolly only the stuff we can carry on our backs...in that case, I shall set about scanning books and burning them onto CD's...and LOTS of batteries for the laptop. Seed packs, a definite must, and I'll find us some info on how to make native-style nets and fishing gear (we could bring modern equipment, but would not be able to re-create...so we'll have to get back to basics).

Do we have anybody with skills in electricity or power generation? If possible, it'd be nice to get the lights turned on....more options.

So....let's make a list...assume we can only bring with us what we can lug on our backs....and it's a one-way ride, so there's no going back if we forget something.

Outstanding, and welcome to Q and DF

Might be a good beginning to give some indication of what sorts of skills everybody has so we can get a snapshot of what we got to work with.

Me, I'm a writer and designer....can work wood, but it's not a strong skill. Basic carpentry, and a hella green thumb.

Probably a few assault rifles and a goodly supply of ammunition would be nice.

We'd definitely have to down-grade our tech - we'd be in the position of having the knowledge of how to build certain things, but not the ability.

I have pretty good leadership skills. Outside of that, I'm pretty good at learning anything I need quickly, and implementing it without much trouble.

Oh, and I'm a pretty fair poker player

                Kid...we need a judge's ruling here:

If allowed to leave, how much stuff can we bring with us? Am I right in assuming only what we can carry?

But wait, is it "fair" for us to remove anything from the utopia? Even our own property, because after all, property is theft?

DF: That poker skill might come in handy....if we set ourselves up as a tourist stopover for Party Elites and such....

Leaders and Fast-Learners, we need. Very cool.

If not, then by Emergency Order Number One of Liberty Island, I'd like to place you in charge of the Office of Requisition.

We'll make the list, you figure out how we can get it. Poker, mayhaps? If we can convince some of the Comrades to play a few hands, we can maybe work our way into a small transport ship...THEN we'll really be rolling!

Actually, we could set ourselves up as a tax-haven for corporations. That could get our economy going, especially if more countries start to embrace communism.

Hmm, OK, Vel. Actually I suggest we all adopt pseudonyms to denote our position, and that we use those used in "The Great Escape" - seems appropriate

That makes me "The Scrounger", I guess.

Risky....I dunno. We have to assume that if we leave, our contact with the outside world would have to be minimal, lest the Army of the Revolution come roust us out.

Would be a good option to keep open though...depending on how much leeway we're given. Otherwise, I think we should make the assumption that aside from "casual contact" with Kidatopia, we're on our own.

Assuming that gets us ready for worst case scenario...easier for us if it turns out that we got more leeway than I imagine....but either way, we'll be on it.

and Master Floyd, do you accept the posting as the Liberty Island Scrounger?
