        Immediate Goals

VERY rough draft document - prototype phase

        1) Food and Fresh Water Assessment
        a) Determine size and extent of fresh water sources
        b) Determine size and extent of indegenous food supplies
        c) Create "Planting Zones" and set about prepping that land to recieve the first crop as soon as the seasons permit - Set up an Agro Company to handle growing the crops
        d) Create whatever infrastructure is necessary to support the farming activities (paths to and from the planting zones, larders, storage facilities for the excess, etc)
        e) Investigate the fishing situation, and set up a company designed around that industry

        2) Assessment of imported supplies
        a) Gather all supplies at a central location under the direction of the Quartermaster - inventory and catalog
        b) Construct a storehouse for all unused supplies, and then begin to dole them out to whomever is working on tasks where our tools are needed
        c) the governmental HQ will be centered at the Quartermaster's building, so that building can pull double duty (cuts down on needed construction)

        3) Housing Assessment
        a) Need to determine how many/what sorts of materials would be required to build basic dwellings so we can do something besides sleep under the stars, then form "Construction Companies" to begin building said homes and dwellings for the population of Liberty

        4) Other Construction
        a) Electrical generation, and construction of water wheels and whatever else is needed for the generation of electricity (wheel house, etc)
        b) Machine Shop - Might be very limited/bare bones, but we need to organize one to experiment with making our own tools and supplies from DAY ONE!
        c) Sundries shop (wood working (cups, bowls, urns, etc), basket weaving, net and rope making, etc.

        5) Research - the purpose of the research department will be to come up with ideas (even if they sound utterly rediculous) to help all of us push our thinking. This person will also be responsible for evaluating land management and use, charting the best fishing grounds, and will serve as the island weatherman. (code name: Tinker, to keep with DF's naming theme)

        6) Medical Care
        a) assess and stockpile medicinal supplies and investigate the possibility of making use of local flora and fauna for medicinal purposes
        b) construction of a medical facility

        7) Constabulary
        a) Need a chief justice to settle disputes and serve as the island's legal mind
        b) Need a facility for this purpose, and a holding cell (not that I expect we'll have much need, but better to have and not use than to not have if needed)

Economic structure: Simple barter/ad hoc for the moment, moving toward Free Market economics as soon as supporting infrastructure is in place, and we move beyond subsistance level. At the outset (and until necessary infrastructure is in place, the government will control rights to all land and fishing zones, if this proves acceptable to the people)

        Mid-Range Goals

        1) Move beyond subsistance level economics

        2) Government Surplus Venting (all remaining tools and supplies used to pay salaries to the island's inhabitants as we move away from subsistance-level economics)

        3) Establishment of formal currency and primitive banking system (Pawn shop system, until more advanced infrastructure is established) Central bank established to support the early banking substructure.

        4) Land grants/fishing zone grants given to island inhabitants who apply (size of plots to be determined by population once we have that information)--copying the US model for expansion

        5) Basic taxation code drafted (this to be kept very minimal, as the only purpose our 'government' will serve once we get to this point will be to draft legislation as necessary, watchdog the companies, oversee the banking industry, and maintain island infrastructure (including maintaining the judiciary)

The goal of the provisional government is to build sufficient infrastructure so that we can gravitate to a system of market economics on the island. There will, by necessity, be a transitionary period required to build and firmly establish all needed infrastructure to support such a move, in order to maximize its chances of success. The citizens of the island agree upon electing the provisional government that after a two-year period, the governing board comes under review, and a new vote is held to either re-elect, or vote no-confidence and replace the provisional governing body.

Provisional governing body may serve no more than three such two-year terms, and is chartered with moving the Island of Liberty away from subsistance-level economics and into the beginnings of a Market economy within that timeframe.

Executive head of the government will be supported by a Congressional branch, with both parties held in check by the Island's Judiciary.

Exact size and composition of the congressional branch to be determined as more information on population becomes available. (if the population is exceedingly small, then the whole of the island can simply serve in this function).

Kid: Things we need from you

If we are allowed to escape....how much can we take with us? Just what we can carry on our backs, or will we be able to outfit a small ship with supplies?

How much contact will be permitted with Kiditopia?

Or, you could produce an electric current.

Magnetic fields are produced from currents (as well as a changing electric flux). Look up the "Biot-Savart Law."

whoa whoa, sounds commie to me - you sure you want to create planting zones? why dont we just divvy up the land and let people do what they want with it?

And I'll be taking bets on how long it'd take for Liberty Island to degenerate into civil war.

I would say it would never degenrate into a civil war, given that David Floyd would kill everybody, being the only one with machine guns

hey guys...cut me a little slack, will ya? As of about eight PM this evening I had no idea I'd be doing any of this stuff....so yeah, it's a bit rough, cos I'm whipping it up as I go. Heck if I ever planned on, or counted on organizing this party....LOL

So consider this a work in progress (and I'll mark it as such until it's in better shape)

To answer your question, LoA...we've got a couple compelling reasons to keep things centralized in the immediacy...first and foremost there's the matter of infrastructure. If the basics are not in place, then the engine of capitalism just plain won't turn over and she'll stall out before she even gets off the ground.

Rest assured, we'll absolutely minimize the time required to set up the market system, but until that infrastructure is in place, survival over market seems the most prudent course.

Aside from that, we're fleeing FROM Kiditopia, remember? That means they'll be watching us like hawks, ready to pounce at a moment's notice...we do anything too provocative, and our goose is cooked.

Small moves. One step at a time.
