Rest assured, we'll absolutely minimize the time required to set up the market system, but until that infrastructure is in place, survival over market seems the most prudent course.

Aside from that, we're fleeing FROM Kiditopia, remember? That means they'll be watching us like hawks, ready to pounce at a moment's notice...we do anything too provocative, and our goose is cooked.

This is how Lenin justified the suppression of dissent in the Soviet Union. Are you really going to accept that creeping communism from an obvious comsymp, LoA?

The difference, Ramo, is that I am fully aware that there are many "red eyes" trained on me.

In that respect, this virtual experiment bears a great deal of similarity to the situation that the USofA's founding fathers found themselves in.

Knowing full well that they were part of what then was a grand, and untested experiment, kept most of them on their very best behavior (Aaron Burr being the exception). Likewise, under these conditions, I'm about the *last* guy you have to worry about.

My goal is to create what we just lost when Kiditopia was founded. Had I wanted more of the same, I would have simply stayed behind.

speaking of which....the goals doc has just been updated, both to reflect its prototype status and to add a few more posts to it that occurred to me while I was afk.

Liberty inhabitants...this cannot and must not be done in a vaccuum. If this plan is to work, then we have to get everybody on board with it....so comment, question, and generally raise hell about any aspect you find unsettling.

If I've forgotten anything, help me fill in the blanks.

I don't know every damned thing...not by a longshot, and if it's gonna work, then we gotta make it work together.

          'k?

Journal Entry - Day one of the Great Escape

            Big Kahuna Nominee Velociryx reporting:

Wow...got nominated for the big post. A pleasant surprise to me...had not expected such an honor. DoublePlusCool!

As for myself, I nominated the Noble and Wise Flubber...although he's the only lawyer we got, and if elected, I don't know what the hell we'll do as far as a judiciary goes. Ah well, worry about that later.

As expected, the reds and their supporters sat just offshore of liberty island and started in with the heckling. Kidicious Prime's laughter could be heard all across the island over the loudspeakers of the ships that make up KidFleet 1....not sure if that means we're doomed or he's amused, but so far, he has kept his word and allowed us to go free.

We shall see if that holds.

So far, we're just trying to get ourselves organized.

Figure out what we have to work with, how to organize ourselves...all that jazz.

I gotta admit that when I came home from work today, this was NOT what I expected to be doing...LOL...funny how life bites you in the arse sometimes.

Nonetheless....that's the situation, so it's time to stop dallying in the ol' journal, get off my arse, roll up my sleeves, and get back to work.

            -=Vel=-
(wishing I'd spent more time studying in class and less time drinkin' and chasing women...much more fun, but not so useful in terms of setting up a system from scratch)

Using the US analogy, you could be Alexander Hamilton, a monarchist plutocrat, ultimately pissed off that you're left out of the power hierarchy.

              You evil comsymp.

Not really for my benefit, as much as for my amusement.

                  /me thinks out loud:

Questions that need answers/immediate tending to

What to do, and in what order:

                  1) Food - initial goal = nobody goes hungry
                  a) Short term goal = surplusses generated (salted and dried fish, etc)--need storage facilities (with surplusses generated, we can spend increasingly less time worrying about having sufficient food, and more time worrying about getting up and running good) - this has gotta be the initial overriding priority
                  b) Short-Term goal = planting our own crops (will require additional storage facilities) (land management - fertilization) - get the folks over in fishing to donate their fish guts and such as fertilizer for the crops.

                  2) Water - Initial Goal = Find and identify water supply sources
                  a) need to create urns and other storage devices for basic water supplies
                  b) need to work on a basic irrigation system to go hand in hand with our crops
                  c) determine if any of our sources of water can be used to aid in electrical generation (longer term, but the assessment can begin immediately)
                  d) begin making plans for needed channels and such to redirect the water to where we need it.

                  3) Quartermaster's office/provisional government's HQ - necessary to track what supplies we've got, in order to make best use of them - no replacements available!
                  a) the goal here should be to use our basic supplies to provide all the essentials needed for our survival and to build what infrastructure and machinery we can in order to fashion better/more tools for when these wear out.

                  4) Medical Facility established

                  5) Basic housing - gentle climate, we can get by without this for the immediacy, but it's still high on the list and needs to be addressed. Build bale-constructed huts initially, if materials are on-hand (easy to tear down when we begin to dole out land grants and such) - temporary in nature!

                  6) Judiciary established. Justice of the peace/Constabulary needed to maintain local order and settle disputes as they arise

                  7) Need to determine what level of contact we are to be
permitted with Kiditopia. If contact with party elites is to be allowed, then the establishment of a facility to recieve them is in order (casino? invite them to poker games with DF...maybe win a few supplies if we find ourselves lacking)

                  8) Library established
                  a) using what laptops we bring, Q can gather these together, along with cd's filled with scanned copies of books we manage to make before we're cast off
                  b) Q assists our division heads with research on all the stuff we need to know to make this thing fly

                  9) Electricity
                  a) how to generate
                  b) what's needed to make the juice generated power our computers after the last battery dies?
                  c) Machine shop needs juice...aside from the machine shop and the library, everybody else's needs must wait until we are more firmly established (possible not to the medical facility)

                  Must sleep now....

                  -=Vel=-

please guys, lets not all get attached to our computers - i say bring one or two but thats it. animals spend 80% of their time looking for food, and/or shelter. thats what we should be concentrate on first (as vel correctly put) everything else is gravy.

Kid, we do require a bit of input, if you'd care to give it....

specifically, can you tell us how much we'd be allowed to take with us when we leave? and how much contact might be permitted with Kiditopia? (if any)
