He may be pathetically trying to start some sort of blacker-than-thou pissing match. 'Course Obama has way too much integrity to take the bait.

And he would be stupid for doing so. Everyone knows that Keyes is really white.

Yes. They tend to be a bit darker than me.

Yes, Keyes kind of has that darker pigmentation that black people have.

DD, I think Kid is really being racist and saying you can't be black unless you act a certain way.

Yes, everyone knows you aren't really black unless you are poor, on welfare, doing drugs, and lacking the ability to speak proper English.

It's got more to do with what you know. Black people are more intelligent about certain things. Keyes is not.

I dunno. On the other hand we have all this, and on the other hand we have this Peter Bagge cartoon.
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world

like what? dancing and having rhythm, playing basketball? does being black grant some sort of genetic memory towards the ills of slavery and discrimination? that they have some ethnic predisposition to poor school performance, crime, and poverty?

it's stupid to say someone isn't black because he doesn't "act" black. you stick him in the boonies somewhere where there are racists, they'll lynch him along with colin powell, condi rice, and john white.

if being white only entails acting white, keyes should never get discriminated against, i would be a honkie, and bush would have an all-white cabinet.

                        "your labor"

who the heck is he addressing here with 'your labour was exploited'?

The resident 245 year old population?

He's making it sound like it was a personal injury done to his audience. Great way to whip up the wierdest sense of entitlement frenzy I've ever seen.

BTW Americans if this ever goes through I'm expecting my Tory reperations cheque to be next in the mail....the US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT stole 'my' land and money and deprived 'me' (me in the sense of my distant ancestors) of employment solely on the basis of political opinions!!

And we owned a farm on Manhattan Island..so that would work out to what??
                        "Wait a minute..this isn''t FAUX dive, it's just a DIVE!"
"...Mangy dog staggering about, looking vainly for a place to die."
"sauna stories? There are no 'sauna stories'.. I mean.. sauna is sauna. You do by the laws of sauna." -P.

Actually, I've found myself processing "black" as a sociocultural rather than a racial label. When I hear it, I usually think of descendants of American slaves rather than, say, the African immigrants I actually see on a daily basis. I've even found myself thinking things like "he's not black, he's Congolese".
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

even by your definition, last conformist, since keyes is most likely a decendent of american slaves, i fail to see why his political positions and beliefs make him suddenly not black.

however, obama would be a half-white half-kenyan hybrid, rather than a mixed white-black person.

I didn't say he wasn't; I was just noting that I tend not to think of "black" as a strictly racial term.

                                cool.

i just don't see why keyes isn't black, and why this allegation comes from the supposedly non-racist leftist folk in the forums.

is a black white supremacist (a la chapelle show) any less black because of his political views?
