May I just point out the irony in the fact that this thread has ended up in a dispute between two canadians

Im not sure what Baruk Khazad is , but if they speak Judeo-Dwarvish, that would be "blessed are the dwarves" - lord of the mark

      KH,

Why don't you calm down and stop calling your opponents stupid, idiots and what not. It's rather unpleasant to witness.

Jimmy is not Canadian. He's an American living in Canada. He grew up in Massachussets and loves to pretend to be Canadian while always taking everybody else's side.

As soon as he stops repeating himself I will.

And as an afterthought, piss off, Winston. It's none of your affair.

Ok, so what is flying a plane (that isn't going to shoot) and landing troops (that aren't going to fight) going to accomplish, besides pissing of the Danes?

I don't have a hardon for naval power, I'm saying that since the Danes sent a frigate first (and they did so because its the logical thing to do in an arctic setting when you want to have prolonged (but temporary and alternating) force, while also not wanting to do anything drastic like landing permanent troops), we should match their vessel with one of our own, which we don't have. If they sent in a squandon to fly by it, I would say we should do the same, but since they didn't, we're in a more difficult position... maybe precisely the reason they sent what they sent.

Where's Ned? We need him here so I have another target.

I don't know. Why don't you ask the Danish government?

Not true, I never have pretended to be Canadian. I say "we" because I live here now, and am going on five years here. I have just as much claim as saying I'm Canadian as Agathon does.

And how is this not Winston's affair? He is Danish (iirc), and this is a Canadian-Danish issue.

You must be a delightful human being to be around. No wonder you're so in love with yourself.

                    • Take down that flag then and fly colours showing who you really are.

I meant the Danish, you know that.

Listen, just because I can see the complexities in this situation and you can't, doesn't weaken my argument.

But lets sumarize. I'm saying we should send a frigate up because its a peaceful show of force, and matches what they've sent so far, setting precendent that we're sovereign over our own territory, including navally.

You're saying it doesn't make a difference because we can "blow their asses out of the water and land boots on every piece of ice up there", which doesn't address the issue of Hans Island in any shape or form.

Remember, I haven't said yet whether I believe Canada should own the Island or not. I'm saying that if Canada wants the island, and to set a good precendent, it should stick up for itself, which so far it has done a piss-poor job of doing, even in the face of a much smaller and weaker country.

No, its a location flag. Its not a "where I wish I was" flag. My location is Canada. In fact you should be flying Old Glory, Marylander.

Edit: And as I said, I have just as much claim calling myself a Canadian as any other immigrant group in Canada. In fact, I have more claim than you, seeing as I actually live in Canada.

I remember the good old days, when if you quoted somebody and editted the quote they would realise that you had done so, and ask themselves why.

If it turned out that only two words needed to be editted and the quote would serve equally well as an argument for the other side then they would retire to reconsider their position, and perhaps comes tto the conclusion that it was untenable.

I would never want to pretend to be an American. I can understand why an American would want to pretend to be a Canadian, but it still annoys me a little bit. Sort of like those American backpackers who sew Canadian flags on their stuff so that people won't dislike them.
