Being Canadian means I legally reside in Canada, nothing more.

But my actual point was that no one ever suspects I'm not Canadian, meaning its not a touchy subject for me, since thats what you implied.

And what side of the issue do you stand on, or would you rather continue the petty bickering?

I suppose nobody's ever described to you the difference between "residency" and "citizenship" then.

So? Any ******* 18 year old in any country with Canadian born parents can vote just as well as you.

And given that I actually live here I would argue that I have more responsibility to remain reasonably informed on the issue, another thing you and I apparently differ on.

But you still haven't addressed the issue, where do you stand on Hans Island? Pro-war I take it?

I'm a legal alien. Canadian is not a legal term, and can mean whatever you choose it to mean. I choose the broader definition, as in someone who lives in Canada and doesn't plan on moving in the near future.

And in a couple years I will too. Horray for Canada.

                • krazy, what is your point? What does questioning how "Canadian" I am (which is a very parochial and xenophobic thing to do in the first place) have to do with Hans Island?

Whats wrong with it? And don't start on the US not allowing it, because it does. Especially for US born citizens.

                      • I don't think that citizenship should be spread between countries. You should have to pick one or the other, not get to choose whichever one gets you the most benefits at a specific moment. Citizenship should not be a label of convenience.

Why not? Citizenship isn't free, it'll cost me thousands in the long run to get it here. I paid my dues, I'll come and go from Canada as I please. Or maybe you're just upset at the fact that you can't get a work permit in the US and it'd take you 7 years to get USC after you get a green card (which you never will)... not that you'd ever want USC though.

Anyways, I'm going to step out for some fresh Canadian air. I'll be back to read your next witty one liner soon though.

                          Edit:

                          • Work permit? With a PhD in physics? Gee, that would be really hard. Especially given that 2/3 of the faculty in my department is foreign-born.

For what I want though, it's 1 down, hopefully 3-5 to go until I can go back home again for good with nice faculty job at UofT or UBC.

                            • I think dual citizenship should be raised as an issue in the next election. Find some cases where a dual citizen was disloyal to Canada or something and set the media on it.
