Not really... to me, this is a hobby, and I'm doing it as a favor for the owners. Unlike SOME people, I have a life... kids, a wife, a job that keeps me very busy, outside interests, volunteer work, other hobbies, lots of friends, and I read a ton as well... I'm still addicted to civ, and still play MP a lot... I'd call it a good life

many would say that having a family means you dont have a life.

        • It's a matter of perspective. My family means EVERYTHING... but that doesn't mean I don't do anything else. When they were little, I would tend to agree with you... but now, there is more free time to enjoy what life is all about.

              • i just find it bothersome how the three sci-fi shows i watch (Enterprise, StarGate, and Andromeda) have been trashed so much in this thread... why do yall not like them? are they silly? badly acted? too mainstream?

                • Enterprise: It's ok; I watch it because it's Star Trek
                  Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis:
Andromeda: Corny, but it's something to watch that's scifi

                  • why is it corny? Because Kevin Sorbo is too much like Hercules (perfect)? but thats how all main characters are. is it the Nietzscheans and their strange stoic philosophizing? what?

                    • Wait, science fiction ... mainstream?

Sadly, scifi has never drawn the necessary attention from the tv-watching public to earn it the distinction of 'mainstream'. One needs only look at the ratings to know that scifi just doesn't interest most people, at least in the US ... don't know about elsewhere. I blame our public education system's lack of effort to interest kids in science over the decades. Let's not turn this into an un-education thread, but people get turned off when they hear the word "science" thinking it's too complex to understand and therefore get into ... even if it's the imaginary science of scifi. Scifi isn't about teaching complex mathmatics or chemical formulas, it's about stirring the imagination. Yet people hear "science" and start to worry that they won't like it or won't get it.

                      • I can't place my finger on exactly why it's corny, but I feel it's the same with Farscape ... only that show is FAR better than Dylan Hunt's universe.

I think maybe the fact that Kevin Sorbo is IN Andromeda is what makes it corny to me. I just can't seem to take him for a serious actor. Seems like acting is more of a hobby than a career for him in my view.

                        • i've seen Farscape and i think it's trash. the farting alien with no legs... is that supposed to be funny? the slutty blue woman... what? the huge dumb warrior type guy... and the episodes are silly... one episode i saw had them on a planet that drugged them into loving living on this planet... i forget what happened but i watched the whole episode waiting for something to happen to make it interesting or make it make sense but nothing happened... then another episode, they were trying to sneak into a bank/storage company for some odd reason...

is there anything redeemable about this show farscape? it seems like trash

                          • I doesn't take itself seriously. That's what makes it great.

Hynerions have legs; Sparky (John's nickname for Rigel) is a deposed ruler who uses that hover chair to get around 'cause he's lazy. The drugged episode is a plot borrowed from TOS Star Trek. Hell, Stargate borrowed the plot for an episode or two I'm sure. And yes, getting in late on a episode in almost any show tends to make one miss the point for the odd reasons characters do things for.

                              • Andromeda is certainly camp, but it haqs some value as camp.

                                I simply am not interested in SG1, I don;t find the characters compelling-so I don;t watch.

I don;t have the time to watch Enterprise, thought I also haven't had a very high opinion of most of the episodes I have watched. Of all the ST captains , I find Archer the most annoying one BY FAR.
