I thought that red card was a bit of an overreaction. The "head butt" was barely a nudge. A yellow card would have been sufficient IMO.

Here’s something you may not know – the yellow card is for Professional infringements only – it is never appropriate for violent foul play. Most refs, NH and SH, get this totally wrong.

DS9 is basically the best Trek series ever - partially because they took a lot of the themes from B5.

Yes DS9 was classy – never as good as B5 but it had decent writers never the less. Voyager sucked almost without exception – may 2-3 decent episodes in seven seasons (so I am amazed Ravagon liked it!). Enterprise had two pointless seasons – there are hints of worthiness in the third but it may be too late as it’s very much under threat of cancellation.

At what point did ST nose dive – when the Berman-Braga producer Axis took total control IMHO. Bury the franchise or change the leadership of it.

It is thus difficult to know which serie has influenced the other... probably both.

DS9 had no story arc at all until late in it’s second season as Ravagon said - when in introduced the Dominion in direct response to B5 winning audience share with it’s arc…

No, I'm allergic to Russell Crowe. A lot of people I know liked the film for Peter Weir's atmospherics. Best Oz director by very long distance.

You sure about this? Last time I checked the laws, it was pretty much refs' discretion. But a yellow card could be part of the punishment for violent/foul play. It could be issued with a warning that a repeat offence will earn a red card. But, as I say, it was refs' discretion. I'll dig up a copy of the law and post it.

I just de-boned deux poussins for dinner tonight! Marinate them for four hours in oil, garlic, rosemary and thyme. Drain the marinade, put the poussins skin-side down in a hot pan with a bit of oil on top of the stove and immediately place a brick-wrapped-in-tin foil on top to keep the poussins flat against the pan's surface. As soon as the skin is crisp and brown, remove the bricks and put the pan in a hot oven till the poussins are cooked through. Wrt ST:Voyager though, I haven't seen most of it - A smattering of the first few season's, most of whichever season opened with the Borg/8472 war, and just bit's'n'pieces thereafter - Australian TV was only showing an episode on irregular occasions.
If they went back to the 'new planet next week' theme I guess I didn't miss much.

To my extreme irritation however, they did the same thing to S7 of DS9.

That seems very good but are you sure they were poussins... and not coquelets.

Actually I believe you may be right – the ‘letter’ of the law allows to ref to resort to yellow for violent play in some circs – but it is opined often up here that this was not the ‘spirit’ in which the law was drafted. Yellow was never intended for punches was it? Are you sure the ref has discretion in the case of punches and head butts? I thought both were possibly named and proscribed? Never the less the yellow is an unclosed wriggle that allows weak refs to cop out of hard decisions?

Having just read and taken on board that Ravagon hasn’t seen all of Voyager I must be careful what I spill. I nearly revealed how season seven ends as I was going to write an anti-Janeway opinion piece. For now lets just list my favourite captains is descending order:

God Janeway is an annoying character – a captain who cannot command!

Anyway back to rugger – Montferand stole Jones from under our noses. As a French side without salary caps they could easily do so. FFR now has England as well as Wales after it’s blood. Could French sides compete with us on a a level playing field I wonder.

Still one piece of good news – Toulouse have signed Gareth Thomas. This at least proves they don’t get everything right!

I'm told that's exactly what it was. Peter Weir doesn't make "action flicks". Presumably they were trying to cash in on Russell's "Gladiator" thing.

I went and checked the laws. It's the ref's option. Even for violent and/or dangerous play. A lot of the laws are incredibly clumsily written. It takes two or three reads to work out what they're saying.

But I think most refs red card the bad stuff. The Crusaders #8 was red carded for his head butt last weekend. If Krige and Venter had been spotted, they'd've gone too. I'm trying to find a version of the laws laid out in such a fashion to allow easy copy and paste.

Oh, and Plank was cleared of his charges after last weekend. Fair enough, too. He was elbowed in the head off the ball by the Highlanders lock. He chased the bloke and grabbed his jersey. The Highlanders lock started throwing punches. Plank retaliated with some punches. The Highlanders lock was red carded for the elbow, Plank was yellow carded for retaliation. Fair enough. Later, though, after the game, Plank was leaving the field. The Highlanders lock had showered and changed into civvies. He went Plank from behind as he was heading for the tunnel. Plank got the shock of his life, thinking someone from the crowd - the Highlanders lock was now in civvies - was going him. There were words, some pushing, then Plank headed on his way. Plank was charged with conduct unbecoming because of it. And cleared. The Highlanders lock was charged with a whole heap of things. He challenged the judiciary's right to act on "off-field" matters. So his charges are on hold until it's determined whether the judiciary does have the right. The man is a serious worry.

I must admit Jean-Luc Picard is also my favorite captain, but I still have a soft spot for Voyager because of the serie's theme.

I have just finished to watch the first season of The Next Generation and though it is not very good I know the best is yet to come as the characters are now almost fleshed out. I am sure the serie will become more and more interesting and I am waiting for Wesley Crucher's death and the Borgs with anticipation.
