Kerry is calling for its repeal, by God. Every American has to be concerned about that.

            From Kerry's website

"KEEP PROVISIONS THAT HELP THE WAR ON TERRORISM. The Patriot Act gave law enforcement some important new tools after 9/11, including: increasing penalties for terrorism, adding new federal crimes on terrorism, limiting statue of limitations for investigating terrorist crime, and permits prosecution of Federal crimes committed overseas. John Kerry believes we must keep these types of provisions. "

this after pointing out some provisions that he WOULD repeal. (like secret monitoring of attorney client conversations, and detaining US CITIZENS as unlawful combatants)

Interestingly, the list of what he would repeal, combined with what he would keep still leaves out many provisions of the Patriot Act (for example wrt to wiretaps, etc) So theres quite a lot of it that he has not yet commited himself on.

            • I would say that the concern about a UN role in Iraq has less to do with monetary corruption, and more to do with political biases the UN has in the region. Much depends on exactly who represents the UN in the region, and on the degree of UNSC influence on any given UN representative.

              • LotM, the only provisions he would scrap are those provisions that help detect and PREVENT a terrorist act.

                • I see.

Prior to the vote, the left says Spain was attacked becuase it helped Bush on Iraq.

After, the election, they deny this. Somehow the attack had nothing to do with Iraq.

Further, the election results shifting from the PP to the socialists had nothing to do with the attack.

All this hypocrisy in a mere 48 hours.

For there is [another] kind of violence, slower but just as deadly, destructive as the shot or the bomb in the night. This is the violence of institutions -- indifference, inaction, and decay. This is the violence that afflicts the poor, that poisons relations between men because their skin has different colors. - Bobby Kennedy (Mindless Menance of Violence)

Of course, this was their motivation when voting for the PSOE.

                              No doubt it is.

Spain has surrendered to terrorism. Just like when people offer to pay the Mafia for protection. They will forget us during some time. Probably the next objective is USA. Now that they know that they have the power to change governments they will try to prevent Mr. Bush´s reelection.

Terrorists have achieved everything they wanted.

                              - They kill people they hate.
                              - They terorize the other people who are alive.
                              - They change a government who would pursue them, effectively gaining more freedom of action.
                              - And they demosntrate that terror works

Spain people have what they deserve. I´m just sorry for the 9,5 million of Spanish who don´t deserve it.

I see. The Right and the Conservative Spanish government say the attack was the work of E.T.A.- all this despite E.T.A.'s denial, and an admission of guilt from an organisation linking itself to Al Qaeda and Moroccan Islamic extremists.

All this misinformation in a mere 48 hours, despite no conclusive forensic investigation.

Do you think the Right has oracular or telepathic powers we don't know about, Ned?
