Everybody has to cut the apron strings some time, strike out and make their own life.

I personally couldn't wait to go over the wall but as the oldest child it was difficult for my parents to let go. I think I joined federal public service partly because it meant I had to move to a new city and start a new life.
Any views I may express here are personal and certainly do not in any way reflect the views of my employer. Tis the rising of the moon..

Look, I just don't anymore, okay?

P.H. you're simply in the wrong part of the North- move across the Pennines to Manchester- I was never once mocked because I talked 'reet posh, like'.

Mancunians (despite Agathon's ill-informed mithering in the 'What's like Texas thread) are incredibly friendly and helpful in my extensive experience.

Exactly the opposite of my experience of Bristol, I must confess.

My partner once had to spend some time in Ashington, and there they thought folks from Newcastle were posh.
He said all the women looked like Biffa Bacon's mother, only more muscular, and less attractive.

So take a trip to the home of Peter Paul Roget, where Engels had a factory, where Alan Turing did a wee spot of computing and Ernest Rutherford split an atom, and Charlotte Bronte wrote part of Jane Eyre.

      You know it makes sense....
Vive la liberte. Noor Inayat Khan, Dachau.

...patriotism is not enough. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone. Edith Cavell, 1915

I have nothing against Manchester, I frequent the place quite a bit, but in terms of jobs nothing has ever gone right with trying to locate to there.

If you're in Manchester, you've got to live in the city. It is a prime example of how to **** up suburbs by moving inner-city slums out in order to make the inncer-city better. Pointless waste of resources.

Granted, it's not just Manchester council's fault.

Should take the leaf out of Liverpool's book and chuck them into north Wales.
