Now on what evidence do you base that conclusion?

"Capitalism ho!"
"US-Oberst Fredrick Rudesheim gab die Zahl der Toten mit 46 an, fügte aber hinzu, man habe die Leichen nicht gezählt. Es handle sich vielmehr um eine Schätzung auf Grundlage der Befragung von an dem Schusswechsel beteiligten Soldaten."
Rudeshaim says 46 dead, but nobody counted them, rather an estimate based on interviews with soldiers.
"US-Soldaten hätten keine einzige Leiche gesehen, sagte US-General Mark Kimmitt am Montag in Bagdad. Er vermute, dass die Gegner die Leichen in ihren Stützpunkt weggebracht hätten."
Kimmitt: Not a single body, the Iraqi fighters have taken them away to their hideouts. (sounds like some heavy bull****)
Are those interviews on the wires or in the papers somewhere?

"I see nothing wrong is taking a small of amount of pride in the defeat of the people trying to kill you."
Who could read or be taught about the charge of the light brigade or about Custer's last stand or about the defence of Stalingrad and not feel a surge of admiration for the fighting men involved. And, if it is your own country's military past, a sense of patriotic pride?
Why is this wrong?
For two reasons. The first is pragmatic. If we go on resolving issues between nation states by war then the war which ends all life on Earth is not far off. Nation states are good at co-operating. And the weapons which this co-operation have created are ruinously destructive.
Either we find a new way or the human race, along with all other life on the planet, is nearing its end.
The second reason is to do with what is real and what is mere romance.
Glory is the purest romance. I was brought up surrounded by soldiers. Their profession brutalises them. And their deeds, whether in this skirmish or in any of the stirring battles remembered in the history books, are brutal deeds.
So take no pride in these things. Instead do the same as those who have found themselves taking part. Hate and despise it. And aspire to finding the better way.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
From John Burns in the New York Times, (yes, the Times) via Andrew Sullivan.
"Here is what you have yet to hear reported in the mainstream media. In the few weeks since Coalition forces began to launch major counter-insurgency attacks, beginning with Operation Iron Hammer, over 1100 Iraqi Guerrillas have been captured or killed. This represents one-fifth of the entire strength of the Ba’athist and Islamist forces in the country. These figures, presented to President Bush in a secret briefing during his Thanksgiving trip to Baghdad, do not include the forty-six terrorists killed in a battle on November 30th. In other words, the US armed forces are killing and capturing fifteen of the enemy for each loss of their own: and this figure is distorted by the high number of US personnel killed in aircraft shoot-downs in November, a figure which is not likely to be repeated. In individual combat, the results look more and more like those of the last Sunday in November: forty-six of the enemy killed and eight captured with no losses among our forces. At the present rate, the entire force possessed by the enemy will be destroyed, and the country pacified, in a matter of months."
Like Sully, I find this incredibly optimistic. Wonder where he got the figure of 1100 from. The figure of 5000 insurgents is from Centcom, I suppose some would dispute that as well.
