We matched it in the Depression. The Regina riot in 1935 which prematurely ended the on-to-ottawa trek. A couple dozen shot, including a bunch of ordinary citizens who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time...

The impression I've been given is that his troops in the Phillipines were near mutiny they hated the guy so much...

That's more like what I wanted to say Thanks for the elaboration, Michael

Ask Skinny Wainwright and Wendell Fertig. There were the two real generals in the Philippines. (though Fertig was only self-appointed, which led the WPPA to **** his Army career)

I don't know about that. Disgraceful yes, but there is some pretty stiff competition there.

The choice here is as easy as it was in the last thread...

                    Guderian by a long shot.

Was Manstein as good as Guderian, I assume people agrre he was better than Rommel
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

I doubt it, but I'm no expert (by a longshot) on Manstein. Kesselring deserves at least an honorable mention as well IMO.

No possible comparison : Manstein commanded the Armies Group South at the most difficult times which is quite different from a couple divisions. At this level of operational command, Manstein is second to none.

Kesselring in defense of a limited front was excellent.

Proper use of the ground and due consideration of the enemy qualities are usual ways to reach excellence.
