St. Leo, name one Republican president who has ever been popular with the left?

Well he is a sheep among wolves. He needs to understand not to start something that he would be hard pressed to finish.

Of course he was right about Bush:

        Bush is a great president

Please exlain the causation to me. Seems more like a convenient coincidence.

Well some Dems liked Reagan at the time... remember the "Reagan Democrats"?

Since I have seen this with no exceptions
Lots of non-leftists are against Bush too. Chirac, Putin. Also, 3 out of 4 Germans and Frenchmen view Bush negatively. 3 out of 4! While in France, the majority votes for right wing parties, and in Germany around half! Plenty of right wingers who dislike Bush. Similar findings in Spain and Italy, where right wingers were voted into office, but 60% still had an unfavorable view of Bush.

So far from just "commies/greens" opposing Bush, lots of right wingers dislike him too. And people don't dislike Bush because he's right wing, they dislike him (and most other republicans, and quite a few democrats) for their (in our opinion) ignorant and short sighted views on world affairs, for their overt nationalist and religious displays, etc. And this isn't limited to US presidents, guys like Berlusconi are universally dispised as well.

You know, I have seen this "hatred" of Republican presidents abroad my entire life. Even Eisenhower was hated as soon as he declared for the presidency as a Republican.

i've seen hatred of the left abroad and here in america since as far back as i can remember by those on the american right.

                you point?

the "left" seems to like Lincoln... although that Republican party was not the ultra-right corporate party that exists today.

I'd rather have Aarnold as president. Then, when he says something wrong noone will understand him enough to backlash. Seriously though, Bush is not doing a very good job. You can't compare what he does right to what he does wrong to get the big picture, because any ****** can get most of the popular stuff right if they just listen to what other people say.. Its the unpopular decisions that Bush is screwing up, and screwing up in a big way.

I was listening to a radio documentary on NPR on democracy, and they said the democrats are reluctant to use populist remarks while republicans use populism a lot (labeling thingss patriotic and american and whatnot other BS). So basically, the repugs tap in on peoples ignorance (taxes and economics) and emotion (9/11, religion, etc.), while the Dems use logical arguments (unemployment, etc.).

Of course he was. The Republican party began to finance RR construction as soon as they got into power. And, by modern standards, Lincoln was a right wing religious lunatic, constantly referring to God and calling slavery evil.

And more than that, Lincoln was a warmonger in every sense George Bush was. He was willing to use force to suppress the rebellion rather that to appease the South.

Lincoln was enormously unpopular among Democrats at the time.

The hatred of socialist and communists is well deserved because they hate freedom.
