  • Teach me how to find stuff on the internet

Every time I'm trying to find some information about something, I never know what to write, to find what I'm looking for...

Does anyone have any good tips?

At the moment I'm searching for information about Token Bus, but if I just search for "Token Bus", I get 3,000 results, where most of them is very much only talking about the technically stuff, but I'm searching for something that describes how priority works, how reservation works and such... but in english please... I can't seem to find anything which describes this in normal words...

But I'm not looking for someone who should just post some links, but instead give me some tips on what to search for (Sure, some links would be great of course... ...but learning what to search for is better)

I am not sure what exactly you are trying to look for but it can be easy. Every time you search for something on the internet you usually get thousands of results, so I would not worry about that. I just focus on the what is on the first page of the results, as usually the sites that match what you are looking for the most part are posted first and ones that are not as close are listed at the bottom.

You may want to try searching for sites that talk about certain subject. Also try different words.

a good tip is to google search what you're looking for, and when something unrelated shows up a lot, just place -(unrelated topic) in the search line.

For example, I am looking for Azazel, the death metal band. Sadly, some book shows up a lot. In such a case I place:
      Code:
      azazel -book
      in the search line.

Thx, though I guess it's a little more complicated when searching for techical stuff, presented in a non-technical way

        I can't just search for

        "Token Bus" -"technical talk"

I dont think that will work. You may want to try this site:
HowStuffWorks has been explaining how things work to curious minds since 1998. Providing factual, unbiased content that's fun to read and makes difficult topics easy to understand.

I dont know if it has what you are looking for but you never know.

Thx, but couldn't find anything usefull there, but I was lucky. A friend of mine had some papers about this, which describes it pretty well, so I don't need direct information about this anymore, but more general tips on how to do a good search is always welcome...

Search around a subject. I, personally, tend to do a lot of searching for music, but often instead of searching for genres (if that's what I'm interested in) I search for songs, artists, related phenomena, the genre plus an adjective etc. That way you can get loads more sites than if you mindlessly leaf through page after page.

What the hell is token bus? You need to know what something is to know how to look for it.

                        :hmm:

I'm usually pretty good with searches.

                        Give me 10 minutes.

With google? This was the first result. (it's in a strange format though, so you need to highlight the text to read it.)

It seemed to give understandable explanation about priority and reservation. (not that I really know what any of this is about, though)

How about searching for "token bus" definition? Google even gives the full definition before the search results.

Edit: I didn't quite read your first post carefully enough... Even so, this search might give you a clue about useful sites and what other search items to use.

The Token Bus Protocol Number 1 is a simple but sophisticated protocol that uses a numerical token that is passed retrospectively by the network hardware from one unit toanother thus providing high speed data transfer through theresulting low data link overhead. The protocol operates on abussed topology and as such has the inherent high reliabilityof this topology. In addition the protocol has an arbitraryunit number assignment system providing greatly increased easeof connectability of units. The protocol also has provisionfor the connection of intra and inter network gateways. The protocol can be implemented easily and cheaply.
