You know, the FBI actively tried to shut down IRA activity in the US. We managed to support 'em anyway.

The only question that should be on the table is whether these camps are (or were) terrorist camps. The fact that Sryia has closed the camps to the international press speaks volumes. However, the UN Sec. Council should not accept either the Syrian or Israeli position without an actually inspection by the UNSC. If that is delayed by Syria for any reason, the UNSC should draw adverse consequences.

I also think that the strike is intended to send a strong message to the Bush regime that its coddling of Syria has to end. Bush and his State department have been to willing to accept Syria's words of good intentions when in fact Syria may have made no substantial moves to end its support of terrorism.

It will be interesting just how many in the UNSC are willing to continue their extreme anti-Israli bias.

Again, I wonder where our Democrat candidates come out on this. Do any of them support Israel in its war against terrorism? Do any of them truly support the war against terrorism at all?

Well, it is a little more complicated than us just coddling Syria. As a secular state they have a vested interest in preventing fundamentalism from rising up in their state. It was only ten years ago or so that The Muslim Brotherhood was ruthlessly put down. The Syrians have provided some very useful intelligence in our pursuit of fundamentalist terrorist. Problem is that they support the Palestinian version.

They can't have it both ways, but the problem is...neithier can we.

Syria is a terrorist state and that must outweigh their contribution in intelligence. We must support destroying terror in all its bases.

Certainly Syria has international law on its side: only two states label syria a terrorist sate: can you name them? The US and Israel..that's it. Even with the post 9/11 Afghanistan resolution Israel had no basis for this, and the Iranian TV video (which at no point actually says :"welcome to a terrorist training camp folks!") which everyone here is "touting" as proof doesn't means a damn. And no, there is NO international law that allows one to "strike at terror camps", since the definition of such a thing is rather fluid (what was the school of the Americas?) and anyone can make it up. You would need massive proof, which Israel lacks (they can;t even convince the US 100% that this site was one).

All I can say is : I told you so. Syria took it to the UNSC, and there was a 14-1 vote..guess who was the one? Hint: it wasn;t the UK (who was part of the 14).

Yup, once again we take the diplomatic hit for Israel messes. What a wonderfull ally we are. Now if once in a while Israel actually did something for the US instead of it being mainly a one-way relationship. The most we can get is for them to heed the occasional "don't do somehting stupid" warning.

Wake up guys; "invade Syria" is just so April......

When a vote coems out 14 to one, it is extremely rare tat the one is in the right: this is the same gorup of states that was there in March: now, fine, someone like Panag wil dismiss the whole vote as just antisemitism, but the fact is that proponenets of the war in Iraq, like the UK and bulgaria, and governments relatively friendly to israel, like the conservative Spanish gov voted against Israel this day, and Spain and the Uk are not unaware of terrorism at home, nor can one reflexively label their govs. anti-semitic. So when you gets such a lopsided vote and the US is the only one to vote otherwise, it only feeds the mostly (but not completely wrong) notion of a US beholden to israel.

And the fact is that the raid is useless. No one hurt, maybe some weapons gone, and everyone backs Syria and Bush is left looking like Arik's lapdog. So what exactly does this sad excercise achieve?

Maybe Israel is controlled by Bin Laden, and is trying to put the US in an even more diplomatically disadvantegous position than its already in?

                                **** that noise Gepap.

These fools are harboring some serious terrorists and the Syrians pay them no damn mind, giving the damn bird to the rest of the world. So somebody else had to pay them some mind and whoop their asses. This sh1t is serious. No doubt these same fools are making their way to Iraq as well.

                                What we said about it:

The United States "believes Syria is on the wrong side of the war on terrorism," Negroponte said. "We have been clear of the need for Syria to cease harboring terrorist groups."

Negroponte said he and other U.S. officials have repeatedly made clear to Syria that its support of terrorist groups is "unacceptable and intolerable."

"We believe it is in Syria's interest and in the broader interest of Middle East peace for Syria to stop harboring and supporting the groups that perpetrate terrorist acts such as the one that occurred in Haifa yesterday," he said.
UK condemnded the attack but had this response:

Although he did not mention Syria by name, U.K. Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry chided countries that permit terrorist groups to attack Israel.

"There is a heavy responsibility ... on all those who are in a position to act against terrorism to do so," Parry said. "Allowing impunity to those committed to using terror as a political instrument serves only to undermine peace and to prevent progress in the Middle East peace process."

                                GIVE THEM HELL ISRAEL
