  • Taxpayers Buy 5k Worth of 'Wow'

Another great reason to avoid paying as much tax as possible.

If only they gave you a sheet with all the government programs and your could write in what % of your money you wanted where. Say 20% education, 30% health, 10% science, 5% military, etc....

This kind of 'art' should get about 0%.

So that's about how much in American money, $3000? For a year's work? She certainly was the worse for that deal.

          'a years work'

we're obviously not thinking of the same thing we we use the word 'work'.

Remember that she is also selling these things for 100s to 1000s of dollars each why not just do that instead of taking 0.000000001% of my money against my wishes?

Does she really need our unwilling contribution if she thinks there are people out there willing to pay her 3 grand for her public hair knitted into a scarf?

I say more power to her if she is that much of a saleswoman, but DON'T TOUCH OUR PUBLIC MONEY when there are so many more pressing problems.

            :barf:
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

An exhibit by artist Aliza Amihude, which features jewelry made from her own pubic hair, is set to open Thursday night.
5000 would pay for my tuition, and a substantial proportion of my rent! I never knew people paid that much for pubic hair.

People like this need to find a real job in the real world instead of collecting trash and other crap and calling it art.

                  I got an idea!

I wonder what good do these programs serve a country? All that happens is that werid people like this take advantage of it and do this sort of thing and try to call it art.

what, you're gonna can your **** and ask the government to buy it?

I think we should all do that in Canada, mail it in with price tags as a protest until they stop funding such ill-concieved, uninspired shock junk.

I will remember this, and 'Voice of Fire', and the urine, and the ****, and 'Quebec Rock Line' (pile of rocks in a room 100k) everytime I hear someone talking about how underfunded something is, or I see a graph showing municipal taxes going up as a result of 'downloading'.

Yeah, because all of the NEA money goes for things like this and never goes to put on large shows of important work, like say, the colection of Romere Beardin's work going on in D.C. riht now.

You all get your panties in a twist over the little **** and let the big **** get ignored. Such useful pawns you are.

the point is that ANY of it goes there.

And yes there are many other issues of waste but this one is particularly galling and sensational, and I believe that we can remember more than one issue at a time.

The big tax waste issues are well-known: HRDC waste, Gun Registry waste, Chretiens wining and dining of his business friends, the fiasco of downloading basically all social spending onto municipalities to artificially 'balance' the budget in Ontario, etc etc etc....

....it's not that taxpayers forget those issues it's that these things are just the coup de grace, the 'not-only-will-we-slap-you-in-face, here's-a-knee-in-the-balls-to-go-with-it'.

Tax payers have every right to question were their tax money goes and what it is spent on. When people hear of stories like this in the news it make you wonder if such programs are worth it or a waste of money.

The government wastes so much money and everything is is very sad.

Junk like this is why I don't believe public money should be spent on pop art. I'm all for spending public money to paint murals, build statues, and what not but only if they are the type which isn't to far out there. The National Endowment for the Arts here in the US just loves to create anti-Christian "art" like the famous Virgin Mary painted in elephant dung or making a cross out of dog ****. I really feel it is unfair to religious people to have to subsidize this crap (literally) which is so obviously meant to slander their faith.

If people want pop art then fine; let them make it and sell it without government subsidies.
