Actually I expect a moral rebound. Some of you have 'morals' confused with the statist equivelant, 'laws' Laws may well be loosened more adnd more, and after a few decades of absolute decadence I think that Morals will rebound despite the fact that everything is going downhill right now.

As Paul said to the Corinthians, everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial. This is wher we should strive to be as a society, with as few laws as possible but with a moral standard imposed not by society but by ourselves, as individuals. As those with unhealthy and generally considered 'immoral' lifestyles purge our society of themselves through diseases (like STD's and needle sharing diseases) I think we will come to realise that perhaps we are better off without them and we will proceed to take up a moral lifestyle.

Alright, for real? I see foreign policy slowly creeping in on our freedoms in America, while Economic freedoms have alreaady been restricted in other nations, such as France whose economy struggles against statism. And Britain and Germany whose governments provide far more than the social contract asks them to and who therefore take far more from the population. The world is becoming complacent to have their affairs governed by others and so I see us declining again. I see, in the distant future, a new dark ages rising (Though this can all be averted, anything can be averted.) , I see morality on a decline, though it is possible that a new generation could bring with it a new Great Awakening, a new flurry of religios ainfluence, barring that we are on the decline and headed for damnation.

As Bruns says, this is all cyclical. The Victorians were scandalized by the conduct of their grandparents. The GenXers have by and large rejected the counterculture. It goes round and round.

I have to agree. And Dracon brings up a valid point - Religion as declined and is continuing to decline.

Even though I'm gay (and a prior alter boy who attended a Catholic school), and by the Roman Catholic church, will burn in hell for it, I say PLEASE, how can one be condemned to eternal damnation by something like sexual perference?

The point I wanted to make is this: Take a look at the Bible, I mean, miracles were being performed left, right, and center! Back then, there were so many miracles happening that you couldn't shake a stick at them without hitting one or two...you would have been blind not to recognise that there was a "higher being" looking out for us...but what about today? Where is God?

Religion is not declining in the United States. Religious observance and service attendence is at an all time high. Almost half of all Americans believe that angels are personally watching over them.

You also have to consider that 100 years from now Europe will have an Islamic majority. Though currently it appears that people from Islamic countries assimilate into the general European culture, once the Muslim population in Europe reaches a critical point they will demand their share of political power and their old culture will begin to reawaken. Once they reach a majority they will inflict Shariah law upon the whole continent. Recreational drug use and alcoholism will not be tolerated. Abortion and homosexuality will be banned. Women's liberation will become a thing of the past.

The US on the other hand will become a Hispanic nation. There culture will be dominated by a sort of fusion of evangelical Protestantism and conservative Roman Catholicisim. Recreational drug use and alcoholism will not be tolerated. Abortion and homosexuality will be banned.

In the mid ninties, 65% percent of Americans reported as attending regular church services. That's the highest level ever reported in our history.
