  • Also, I wouldn't exactly call Texas part of a snooze fest.

I also wouldn't call them more exciting than Iowa either .

    • BIG 10 = Most overrated conference in America.

Outside of Michigan and the Ohio State defense, what's fun to watch in the big ten.

      Nothing.

Neither is Oklahoma State or Texas Tech.

Normally I agree with your comments, but this has got to be the most uneducated commet I've seen you make.

        Nice troll though.

          • Woo Hoo! I got a ticket to the Independence Bowl today so even though I've never been to a Bowl game I get to go to two this year. Geez, I hope they don't suck.......

            • Both the Big 10 and Big 12 were pretty tough conferences this season, if the strength of schedule scores for the BCS are to be believed. Having 5 teams in the top 25 also indicates that the Big 10 had a reasonably good year.

The SEC was less tough this year, although I agree that it's normally a very tough league. Tennessee had only the #46 toughest schedule. That puts it in the league of the MAC this year.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

              • You know what is the worst about this whole bowl process?

How can 10-2 Northern Illinois be sitting at home while, Georgia Tech, Northwestern, and Kansas-all with a stellar 6-6 record, get bowl bids?

                ACK!

                    • Well that is what happens when conferences get greedy and go to 12 teams. This is why every conference should be at 10 teams.

I sort of agree with you.

The problem lies in having conference title games, not in having 12 teams, but greed is the underlying factor. Conference title games allow undeserving teams to win titles they never should've had a shot at, foreshadowing the devastating effect a playoff would have college football.

Of course it deals with 12 teams. Because of the schedule a 12 team conference will not allow every team to play every team making a conference title almost necessary... after all, look at the Big 10 (11) last year. Iowa and OSU were tied for conference record but they were the only two Big 10(11) teams that didn't play.

Conference title games allow undeserving teams to win titles they never should've had a shot at, foreshadowing the devastating effect a playoff would have college football.

Devestating? Just because the conference title games were boring this year doesn't mean they aren't good fun and great to watch in other years. They add excitment to the game.

We can turn your statement around:
[Bowls] allow undeserving teams to win [playoff games] they never should've had a shot at, foreshadowing the devastating effect a [full] playoff would have college football.

Exciting playoffs (bowls count as one) make for good football watching.

They are exciting, but they also allow teams like Kansas State a chance to win a title they didn't earn via their regular season play. If we had a playoff this year, a three-loss Kansas State team would be playing for the national title. As hot as they are right now, they might win it. Can you imagine what would happen to college football if a three-loss team won the national title? It would ruin it...

So? As K-State showed, they should have been allowed the chance, because they kicked OU's ass. I think they 'earned' it pretty nicely. It ain't like they were 4-10 and won (of course then OU would have been really pathetic ), the regular season was required for them to be there.

It would make it a better sport, because the championship is decided on the field, not by computers and human polls. Obviously the 1 and 2 loss teams just weren't good enough if a 3 loss team took them to the woodshed.

No they shouldn't. They should've blown their chance at the conference title with their bad play in the early part of the season. College football isn't the NFL; we reward teams who play well over the entire course of the regular season, not teams that get hot at the end.

It would make it a better sport

That's your opinion. You, of course, think the NFL is a superior sport to college football, though, so who cares what you think? You're obviously deranged...
