the only drug for me is sweet lady liquor

Its become all to acceptable these days to **** with your body and **** with your brain. We have no idea how this stuff will affect teenagers who are taking it now, 30 or 40 years down the line.... I think anti-depressants, as well as other drugs are overprescribed nowadays. I'm sure there are people out there who absolutely need it, but I'm sure its less than 1/4th of the people taking it right now. I know plenty of people who take it, and yes depression was having an impact on their day-to-day lives. But just because you feel depressed for 2 months doesn't mean you need medication. Hell, I was depressed for 6+ months, and it had significantly impacted my life - lost lots of friends, grades went down the tubes, hardly did anything; but I got over it without any artificial means and now I think the experience made me stronger as a person.

So if you choose to take the pills now to **** with your brain chemistry go right ahead.... but when you're suffering from some brain disorder in 30 years don't start *****ing about it.

      Pull yourselves out of it.
Its not as easy as that. Its a chemical issue, the brain re-absorbs seratonin (a happy hormone) too effectively, and thats why we take selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors.

The cause can be either psychological or medical. Either way, it can't be helped.

I was on this generic fluoxitine hydrochloride (basically prozac) and it ****s with your head! I flushed it a couple months ago, the next month was tough but I'm good now.

I do think depression gives you an interesting outlook on life though, a new non-pragmatic, idealistic, philosophical perspective that is quite common in depressives or post-depressives in my experience. Every cloud...

        That sounds like me.

I've never even considered medication, but if that's what a depression is, then I've been in one for the last 2 years.

I never got why so many people took mental-related pills--are that many people REALLY crazy, or do doctors just want to hand out Prozacs, Ritalins, and Zolofts to keep pharms rich and/or to get the patients out of the ****ing office?

Myself, I think these kinds of pills are (no offense) an escape from actually having to tough out or take on your depression. But that's just me though.

I dont think I know anyone who willingly wants to be put on this stuff, its just a preferred option from the doctor, we dont know any better, and anyway, who are we to argue with a doc on such matters? Its a great pity that so many people are being pushed onto this stuff.

I guess I'm just one of those "tough it out, punk" guys then. But there really is little knowledge of what these drugs do 30 or 40 years down your line (perhaps they'll discover an accidentall infertility gene or two in Prozac ), and humanity survived for millions of years without it. (Yes, only several thousands of those years were civilised, but so?) They're the easy way out, and I usually don't think the easy way out solves a lot. However, it will prove itself when the drugged-up generation enters old age itself.

I don't like how easy doctors will prescribe the stuff. The few people I've been around on it were actually far worse (to me) while they were taking it than before (or after), though "Your results may differ," I just don't think the stuff really could work better than counseling. (Or placebo. Anyone know where links to studies on the crap is?)

Actually, it's possible that for most of the teenagers it's prescribed to, it's very wrong. Having the ups and downs (maybe more of either one) is all part of growing up, and if kids grow up all good then the effects could be unpredictable.

I've talked to plenty of people (not any professionals, just family etc.). I have my ups and downs (mostly downs), but I never really considered myself "officially" depressed, just... um... unmotivated, shy, whatever.

But if other people get on prozac for this...

                            DON'T!

Keep your morals, be a man, stand up for what's right (so long as right means not taking it ) -- being "shy" or "unmotivated" are not reasons to drug yourself up. It's better to naturally overcome that shyness or lack of motivation WITHOUT the help of artificial "fixes".

Er, how does fluoxetine "**** with your head?" I'm on it now and I don't seem to be screwier than usual. And if my memory serves me correctly, depression made me philosophical, but it wasn't exactly brilliant philosophy. It was a lot like the stupid, whiny, counterproductive rage-against-everything crap they vomit out at you in Fight Clu-oh, wait. Never mind.

I´m curious now, are there any doctors in Apolyton?
