  • Happy Pills

Soo, I've joined the ranks of depressed teenagers on SSRIs. My doctor has given me a bunch of sample pills of this stuff called Lexapro, which he described as a third generation Prozac. Apparently this is supposed to be good, new stuff.

Now, I've done my own research on this drug, simply because I wasn't gonna put something in my body if I didn't know exactly what it was going to do to me, but I want to know more.

Are there any Apolytoners on Lexapro? If so, can you tell me how you've fared on it, what kind of side effects it's given you, whether or not you've noticed any beneficial effects?

    Thanks in advance.

Don't know of this one so it must be a new one. I use prozac, works fine for me with no side effects...

thought this might be about another (better) variety of pills

don't take anything like that myself of course. i'm always quite surprised at the number of people who have to on this forum, and elsewhere. there was a very interesting article in the times a few months back about how doctors will dolling out prozac and the like to every tom, dick and harry, when there were often better ways to deal with their problems.

I used to be on Zoloft for years, until the side effects outweighed the benefits of comfortable synthetic numbness.

These days I'm usually pissed-off and moody instead of chemically indifferent, but I find that that is a much more natural state of being for me, and it's really helped my writing.

Now all I gotta do is find a brilliant-yet-predictably-stable-and-independently-wealthy muse to move in with, have a rocky and tumultuous relationship, develop a SERIOUS drinking problem, get kicked out, crawl back, get kicked out again, crawl into the bottle, crawl out of the bottle, pen The Great American Novel, and finally become rich and famous based on my own merits and not those of my wealthy benefactor.

If only my name was Chuck Palahnuik - that would solve all my problems and I'd have achieved everything I ever set out to do by the time I'm 30 years old.

THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS, KIDS.

        Just say no!
        Stay in school!
And whatever you do, DON'T TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!!!

Fortunately I know I'm depressed. I've observed my lack of motivation, my disinterest in doing things beneficial to myself, my lack of desire to even do the things I'm supposed to love (reading and writing). I do realize that these pills are a good idea for me, even if I absolutely hate the idea of sticking pills in me and having them **** around with my system.

On Celexa right now, and it's great.

The only sideeffect it has is it drastically cuts down your alcohol tolerance. Since the only time I drink is when I wanna get smashed, it's win-win for me and saves me money!

Believe me, the unwanted sexual side effects aren't that unwanted in my case
