  • re creativiy and depression - this is a more significant question wrt to medicating for dysthymia/minor depression, etc. I doubt many people produce much while in a major depression.

    • True...but this whole having 25% of our population on legally recognised pills to make them cheerier, and 25% others on illegal pills to have them a good time on Fris and Sats is a very sorry state. We are storing up trouble for the future and some of the problems are already coming through now.

yup , that would sound like depression even in someone without a prior history. Time to at least check in with a professional.

        • Actually, I'm rather anti-therapy. I don't like the idea of a professional friend. I can't bring myself to trust the person who is acting all concerned and **** only cuz I'm paying them.

Theoretically, therapy is a good thing, but unfortunately, it is done by fallable humans who bring all sorts of misconceptions of their own with them.

            • He's confusing the fact that as many as 25% of the population may be suffering from depression with the idea that we're all on pills.

You guys are the worst outcome of society, not me. I'm not to blame for my fate, you are.

                • Alcohol is a legal drug Bodds, in fact one I abhor more as I see more. It causes so much destruction and violence and other social problems yet for some reason you don't seem to have anything against this drug which, like any other drug, if abused as I know you do can have serious effects...you must see these things with parity...

A therapist ideally should be more than a pro friend. They should contribute real solutions, that a friend might not think of. and they should be objective in a way its hard for a friend to be. and sometimes it should be possible to admit things to them that would be hard to admit to a friend. Its nice to get legal advice from a friend, but even better to get it from a lawyer. Its nice to get financial advice from a friend - but sometimes better from an accountant. and its great to get advice on thoughts, feelings, and life steps from a friend - but sometimes better from a professional.

But they do bring misconceptions - IMO it takes months to "break in" a therapist, and some cant be broken in at all.

and nothing sucks more than when youve found a good therapist, who you work well with, and then they leave for personal/career reasons

i thought that number was lifetime, not 25% at any one time. Of course lots of people in recovery stay on meds for some time.

That's because right wingers think pain is normal, and they spend their lives trying to inflict as much of it as possible.
