          • In Star Wars, of the bat we are in a "galaxy long ago and far away".. what is Luke Skywalker? He can;t be human, since he is anot a decendent of an earth based species, so what is the name of the humanoid race to which Luke and Han and Leia and so forth are from?

A declaration that by itself shows the crazyness of Star Wars. And my galaxy eating dragons (named Zot and Jeokoo-Bob) will make a quick meal of them anyhow! Ha!, worthless little ISD's!

What does it matter what they're called in their galaxy? The fact that they look like us isn't entirely outrageous. Many scientists have theorized that should the same conditions as Earth be present on other worlds, then it isn't inconceivable that, somewhere in the hundreds of billions of galaxy, there is a race just like us, or at least similar enough to us visually.

Look at all the species in ST and how similar to humans they are, or B5 for that matter. That's the limitations of producing shows and movies that require human actors, duh.

Do those dragons have any relation to Q or the Founders?

              • The only way SF movie aliens could concievably evolve is if humans were to genetically engineer new semihuman species more suitable for offearth environments. Strange how this scenario's not much explored.

Then why not just posit this is Milky way millions of years ahead? And the posibility that a race might be humanoid is high enough, but mammals with hair in all the right places? Extremely far fetched. Besides, planet of the Apes used human actors: it called makeup.

No. You assume I care for those two ideas from Star Trek, and I don;t. They were poor ideas and badly handled by the writers as well. But those mistakjes still leave ST as far more beholden to some rationality than SW. I am a B5 fan, and thankfully B5 is far more "sane" about what it specualtes about in its little universe.

Why make it in the Milky Way if he didn't want it to be so? You're grasping here, complaining over something minor. So what if there are humans in SW who look like us? Note the above post as to the similarities over every intelligent species in the ST galaxy to humans and how far-fetched that is.

Humans are in SW because that's what we're familiar with, being human and all.

Yeah, ST stands up so much more to rationality:

                      • So I am to be convinced by the rantings of a SW Geek against the arch nemesis ST?

Anyone who tells me a ISD can sit in the core of a star and be just fine can not expect e to hold SW tech to be even half-way believable.

Thankfully, I am a B5 fan, so all this nonsense is much less in my little fantasy universe.

Beyond the "First One", the concept is not far fetched. We are talking about millions of years of technological advances, so one is to expect them to be way ahead: they are not seen to do anything as "magical" as some of the stuff done in SW, and certainly not like the Q.

The Vorlons and Shadows are not endlessly powerfull, and they have actual rational drives. And again, these are very ancient races with millions of years: no duh they are ahead of everyone else.

So no, B5 is still much more within reason than even ST, far less SW.

The site is devoted to SW vs. ST.

Ya see, STers started this. They like to poo-poo SW because it's more popular than their precious ST, so they pulled out the whole ST is more scientific thing and claimed ST ships would beat SW ships, etc. Now it's bitten them on the butt, because SWers have shown that ST is just as guilty in terms of using scientifically impossible things.

Gepap: David Wong isn't just a SW Geek--he's a physicist. You deride him as a geek, but you're obviously just a B5 Geek. So what? That's kinda why we're here. I'm kinda disappointed in you, though. For someone who typically displays pretty rational behavior, you seem to be irrationally biased against SW here.

I note you didn't argue with the content of those pages, but just derided the author as an SW Geek, as if that proves anything. Do you know him? No. Do you have any reason to dismiss his arguments except out of your own bias? Doubtful.

I'd suggest you lay off arguing with Fez, I think he's rubbing off on you.
