Rape is bad, no doubt. But it is also bad, most probably worse, to spend around 10 years of your life locked away in prison, and I do suspect there quite a few innocent men locked away for crimes they didn't commit.
Another thing to consider is the jury might convict him anyway even if the prosecution hasn't really proved it's case. I've heard of trials where it seemed like people were convicted on dubious evidence. Just because a reasonable person would say that the crime hasn't been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, well there is always a chance a jury might not be filled with reasonable people.
