  • Rape is bad, no doubt. But it is also bad, most probably worse, to spend around 10 years of your life locked away in prison, and I do suspect there quite a few innocent men locked away for crimes they didn't commit.

Another thing to consider is the jury might convict him anyway even if the prosecution hasn't really proved it's case. I've heard of trials where it seemed like people were convicted on dubious evidence. Just because a reasonable person would say that the crime hasn't been proven beyond a reasonable doubt, well there is always a chance a jury might not be filled with reasonable people.

      • There are cases where it's obviously rape, others where it obviously isn't and too many in that gray area (he said, she said, rape but never reported, etc.) that makes me believe it's difficult to come up with an exact 1/4, 1/3, etc. figure. on how many women are "raped."

Now it would be easy to say 1/x women report being raped, or in a poll 1/x women claim to have been a victim of rape...etc.

You seem to be making the common error of somehow assuming this is a civil suit. This is a criminal prosecution and the victim will not directly collect money from Kobe regardless of the trial's outcome. Kobe could offer the lady a million dollars tommorow and it wouldn't affect the criminal charges he is being brought up on one bit. Admitedly if Kobe is convicted, the lady could presumably sue Kobe for alot of money, but this does not necessarily mean that she made up these charges for that purpose.

I view it as extremely unlikely that the women who is claiming she was raped by Kobe tried to ask for money before or immediately after initially filling charges against Kobe. If this was the case, Kobe's defense team would have already published this fact to discredit her before the trial and to persuade the public that the rape charges are bogus.

                • Latest News: Apparently the prosecution has evidence she came out of the room crying, apparently a fellow employee at the desk is going to testify that she was distraught coming out.

Of course, if it is a friend of the girl, she very well could be making this up to help her.

                  • I'm sure that at least 1 in 4 are raped. Acquantance rape is much more common that we'd like to believe.

                    • It depends on who's deciding if it's rape.

                        • I'm not sure anyone would admit they are a Nuggets fan

                          Kobe is screwed.

It's so difficult why he would rape that woman. I have trouble believing it.

First of all, if you are a famous person why would you rape someone? They know who you are, and know you have lots of money.

On the other hand, being famous with a good reputation may be a good advantage. Nobody would suspect him of rape, and they would just say it is consentual and the woman is out for his money.

                          • and that 1 in 4 is bull****. I just posted above why that is. That 1 in 4 includes women who've had sex with someone and later wish they hadn't.

If aquaintance rape is that widespread, we have a serious problem here. All I know, is I've never raped a woman.

                            • check this article out, and see what you think.

I just happened to stumble accross this- it's where I got my information from.

                              But I may be wrong

This woman may be some conservative nut job (most conservatives are nut jobs ) with an agenda.

And it turns out I worded the question wrong above.

The actual question is this: 8. Have you had sexual intercourse when you didn't want to because a man gave you alcohol or drugs?

The way it is worded is why the number of women raped is 1 in 4.

"Koss and her colleagues concluded that 15.4 percent of respondents had been raped, and that 12.1 percent had been victims of attempted rape.[9] Thus, a total of 27.5 percent of the respondents were determined to have been victims of rape or attempted rape because they gave answers that fit Koss's criteria for rape (penetration by penis, finger, or other object under coercive influence such as physical force, alcohol, or threats). However, that is not how the so-called rape victims saw it. Only about a quarter of the women Koss calls rape victims labeled what happened to them as rape. According to Koss, the answers to the follow-up questions revealed that "only 27 percent" of the women she counted as having been raped labeled themselves as rape victims.[10] Of the remainder, 49 percent said it was "miscommunication," 14 percent said it was a "crime but not rape," and 11 percent said they "don't feel victimized."[11]"

                              • some of her other points are questionable....

Koss also asked: "Have you given in to sex play (fondling, kissing, or petting, but not intercourse) when you didn't want to because you were overwhelmed by a man's continual arguments and pressure?" To this question, 53.7 percent responded affirmatively, and they were counted as having been sexually victimized

                                ...

Give me a break. One would think that using this argument closer to 100% of all women have been sexually victimized, including probably my wife by me. And what about all the times I've had to put out when I felt tired or had a headache. Can I get a cookie too?
