So the question we should be asking is not why are blacks so fast, but whay are Kalenjin people so fast.

But they aren't. They have the best endurance, but I'm sure they wouldn't fare well in a sprint (a test of 'fast').

It seems Western blacks are the fastest, if you look at the Olympics and the world record holders in the 100, 200 and 400.

Don't tell me they work harder than some white track dudes. It simply streaches credulity to think that only the black track stars work super hard and thus become Olympic stars.

I disagree. Just because there is variance within a group doesn't mean the differences between a group can't be interesting. Anything that tells us more about how we work is interesting.

Well, is there a chance it's just a statistical anomaly? What percentage of entrants in the races we're talking about are black? I don't follow the Olympics so I don't know, but if 90 out of 130 marathon entrants are black, for example, it shouldn't surprise anyone if there are a lot of black guys in the winners' circle. And there are like 50 countries in Africa, right? Just a note I didn't think anyone had touched on. And I too think that this thread could've been named better...

Why is it that these threads are always started by conservative posters with dubious views of Race?

Oh look, a race thread started by Lancer addressing an intrinsically racist subject - there's a f***ing surprise!!!

I'm assuming the only reason Caligastia hasn't piped up with his pet theories is cos he's on holiday?

It's this whole posting of a racist subject in a supposedly 'non racist' discussion that allows other conservative (fill in blank of your choice) posters such as Uberkrux (repeatedly) and Slowwhand to post supposedly subtle (as a f***ing sledgehammer) racist remarks by saying it would be bad if people posted such comments as the ones they themselves posted... How f***ing clever.

Personally I think it is because of endemic racism in the US particularly and also in the UK, Europe etc that means there are more successful black track and field athletes particularly in running events than whites because if you are poor, all you really need to begin with are a pair of running shoes and you know if you do well you have a chance to be noticed and escape the poverty trap. People from middle class backgrounds are less likely to risk investing huge amounts of time in a sport with very little chance of making a career out of it when they can go off to uni and get a nice highly paid job sitting on their asses all day. Those poor people are desperate for any chance they get...

Give people from all races a level 'playing field' and I'm sure you'd see the demographics change...

Oh and just BTW I played for a team where the majority of players were black and yours truly was the fastest player...

People from middle class backgrounds are less likely to risk investing huge amounts of time in a sport with very little chance of making a career out of it when they can go off to uni and get a nice highly paid job sitting on their asses all day.

Carl Lewis seems to be the definition of middle class (he even got his college degree). Maurice Greene, the current world record holder, is black as well.

While complaining about simplistic answers, you provide one yourself. Why am I not suprised?

I noticed speed differences as a child all through school. And that is interesting that you are so fast, but how about the average black and white on your team. Who were typically fastest? And was your team majority black even though it drew from a population that wasn't? Why are there no white cornerbacks. I played in high school and I had plenty of guts and work ethic. I hit just fine. And practiced my ass off. But speed is something that is pretty inate.

But it is a consistent generalization worth discussing to some. In my experience with Black athletes, which is great, I consistently see them do better with less training than their caucasian counterparts.

A local high school basketball team in a predominately black area went to state and won. Their skill and talent was tremendous. My brother went to one of their school period practices to see what type of workouts they did, expecting them to be training very hard like he and his almost entirely white team did. While my brother's team spent their practices doing hardcore sprints and drills, this team would lounge around and shoot a little bit, with a box of jelly doughnuts for all the players to help themselves to. Yet they wound up going to state... (my bros team went far in the playoffs, but didnt make it to statein the 4A category)

Does this prove Blacks are more athletic than whites? no, absolutely not, but it is one of many examples that support the generalization that athletic blacks are more so than athletic caucasions.

First off, I have to ask if the sample is representative of the overall african population.

If you are sampling West African students in Canada, then I would consider this to be the upper portion of Africans.

Did these students grow up in Canada or in Africa?
