  • Describe how government in the future would work? Better or Worse?

I think government in the future has the potential to be much better. Technology has improved the quality of life for humans. The purpose of this thread is for you to describe in your own words how a government in the future would work and whether it would be better or worse than present. Please refrain from bashing other people's beliefs in this thread. There are enough out there to do so.

I'll post my own thoughts on this matter later.
To us, it is the BEAST.

The need for government dissapears - the people will eventually learn to govern themselves... however this is not going to happen soon...

technology accelerates the process of advancement, but being a double edged sword, our abilities to create wonderous things are matched by our ability to destroy horrifically.

as older governments try to clamp down on freedoms given their citizens, in the interests of security, and as newer states attempt to gain more political power on the global stage, the internet's ability to break through barriers starts to cause greater unrest among some of the more populated or formerly democratic states.

it all ends in an apoplectic apocalyptic cataclysm in which human technology is turned towards hellbent destruction.

mankind's last gasp is in antarctica, where the scientists find that their connections to the outside world have been severed, and are forced to eat each other.

however a few freeze and a million years later aliens come to the solar system and create clones out of a few remaining frozen cells so the new civilization begins...

the new civilization begins in an isolated island off the coast of A___.

these aliens keep the humans in pens that were designed to be like the "traditional human environments", and would be a tourist attraction.

however, one night, a disgruntled programmer shuts down the electric fences and a typhoon rolls over the islands... resulting in the breakout of the humans.

upon learning of their freedom, however, the humans go into an apoplectic fit and die of strokes.

however in the meantime humans have developed some sort of viral disease that attacks the brain cells which started the alien plague, within next century all intelligent life in the universe died out.

10^20 years passed universe collapsed in itself and big bang happened again

Yep, I'm with Obi Wan. Mankind will undergo rapid spiritual and social evolution that will lead it toward socialism within 10-20 years.

To answer Sava's question more directly. By the time we hit socialism, government as we know it will begin to fade away. The government of the future will be nearly non-existant. In many ways, our way of life will begin to resemble that of the Native Americans we vanquished from the continent much more than the hectic, modern world we know today. It will be wonderful, I just pray that I live to see it.

                          10-20 years?

Come on, now, you could have been more realistic .

                          ---

A government in the future (I'm simply going to try to predict 50 years into the future, because anymore would be too much) will definetly integrate technology. Technology will change government, but not to super sci-fi equivalents. You will have representatives in great contact with their populace, almost every day. People will be greatly interconnected by the internet and television, knowing news around the world instantly. Voting would by internet, and results processed instantanously. Because of this interconnectivity you would have more refendum initiatives.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
                          - John 13:34-35 (NRSV)

I see a more dystopic future of the world and it's governments. I see a rise in fundamentalism and a repeat of religion playing a large role in future governments. This will lead to clashes with other governments with a different religion and may lead to war. Terrorist fueled violence will spread while those states who fight against it will strain under the pressure.

I'm hoping that when I graduate, I'll be able to fight terrorism and kick major terrorist booty.

same. I'm under the impression that goverment really hasn't improved much over 200 some odd years (when the best goverment was created).

I disagree that there will be a rise in fundamentalism. Eventually 99% of the population will be athiest with only a few nutcases running around.

And I also disagree we can govern ourselves. Human nature does not allow this. It is an impossibility unless things like mind control and severe genetic modifications are invented.
