i agree w/Diss. Sure, ppl would like to think we'd be able to govern ourselves...but I'm not that optimistic. You're going to have a couple of whacko's around who are going to want more than their share of the pie.

Sure, 99 percent will be athiest or athiest-like, but that 1% is what's troubling me. All you need is 1 person out of 100 to do some harm.

I've been reading a lot of history sites lately. And I am impressed by how little things change in goverment and politics over thousands of years. It is foolish to believe in some utopia.

Technology can make things interesting, but I doubt it will make things significantly better. Unless we find out a way to change human nature, things will remain the same.

I forsee a global collapse in 50-100 years, (let's call it the Chasm ). several nukes will be used in the following wars, but will not lead to a complete nuclear exchange. as society will descend into chaos. This will be followed by rebirth of various societies on different, opposing principles, while the advancement of computer technology in the years before the collapse will allow the planned economies to overtake the free market ones, with a couple of exceptions, but those exceptions will be very strong political entities. At least two religious movements will survive the "Chasm". Still, the two superpowers will be technocratic in nature, variants of socialism, and fascism. In about 200-300 years, the first viable off-world colony will be formed, on either the moon or Mars. WWIV will errupt 15 years later. nuclear holocaust on earth, colony will become independent, but will near death, and will barely survive. 200 years later, earthly life will reappear. Suprisingly enough, earth will rebuild in a very fast matter, due to the existance of fusion power, developed back in the after Chasm, pre WWIV age.

Humanity will finally unite some 750-800 years from now, and will colonize the entire solar system. With each planet having a single government, but barriers of interplanetary communication will lead to each planet being independent.

in another 250 years, humanity will establish the first colony outside the solar system.

        ---The end of times---

later, generally speaking, humanity will spur into different species, as genetic pools will be separated by the vastness of space. But, there will be wars, periods of peace etc. The rest depends on the existance of Aliens, other universes, and other things that are currently unknown. And I don't like speculating ( ), so I'll just leave it here.

The creation of wealth in general leads to the resources to create a better government. Futhersome technology, this beloved residual in development, will make the use of those resources even more effective. There's however crucial parts of a government that's hard to improve beyond a point with resources and technology. Democracy takes time. Hopefully people will in the future start to cut down futher on their work hours and spend the time as members of a society not just consumtion. fat chance that'll happen.

since, amazingly enough, we are one of the most idle societies ever, I don't see how this can contribute or change anything. We need to have better organized past times.

Come on, now, you could have been more realistic .

Yep, global socialism in 10-20. Actually it could be just a hair less than that, like 8-9 even. I'm sure you think that it's utterly absurd now, and I don't blame you, but just wait a few years.

Actually some of the seeds will be planted this year even. There will be a pretty bad economic collapse around mid-October.

Well, I wouldn't really say people are that idle on average. Consumption takes a lot of time. A change of priorites in a society is needed but I can't see that happening.

I don't blame you of course, but you may be pleasently surprised, old friend.

Oh I would be quite happy. America's best chance for a social revolution was in the 60's. American Capitalism is very good at keeping people just happy enough so they don't rock the boat. I don't see how things could change in such a short time.

                              Governments in the future?

As religions fail, Democracy spreads like wildfire until all countries are united under one gonvernment, with one president...

States are broken down to allow for better local representation to congress, and supreme courts are more prolific and localized by selected belief systems. Meaning that you adhere, or subscribe, to a specific judicial system, and are tried by this system as well as common or general law...

The multi tiered system of government works well for many generations until a ballot couting error occurs in Florida. Mass rioting leads to global warfare with sides being deemed by judicial courts... Then, in our weakest hour, as mushroom clouds dot every sky line... the aliens show up and share the secret of planetary rule... Common Religious Ground... the suggest that the whole of Earth form a government ruled by religion and that all should worship.... The Great Banana!
                              Monkey!!!
