British is better, but I like shows like Southpark, Seinfeld or Married with Children as well.

There has been an increase in good american comedies lately, but I vote British, by far.

OTOH, American remakes of British Comedies are usually absolutely horrid (with the noteable exception of All in the Family).

Anyone watching My Family on Friday nights in UK? OK I guess you have to be married to get the most of it but it is bloody brilliant

There have been a few great American comedies, but they are exceptions: most American comedy does the job, but is full of cliche and generic ideas. The Brits are much more original, plus I like it that they hardly insult the intelligence of their audience.

Monty Python! I mena, is there anything in the Us that could compare to the Parrot Sketch?

I like Kids in the Hall (Canadian), I like a lot of British and American humor too. Can't say which is better, it is all funny.

Yet, since American comedians were the first to include banana peels in their sketchs I will have to vote for Banana Comedy... Why isn't that a choice!!!?

                      Obviously, American comedy is funnier.

We have so much of it, it spills over into the presidency.

I'd call it a tie. The Brits were ahead, but the Yanks caught up thanks to Curb Your Enthusiasm, also known as the 'funniest programme on television'.

                          As for Canadian stuff:

I like Rick Mercer, but can't get into Made In Canada.

Kids In The Hall is great.

SCTV has so many good people, but I set my hopes to high, and I'm always disappointed.

Mike Bullard is the least funniest man alive.

Sean Cullen is, by far, my favourite Canadian comedian... Yet I've never watched his CBC show. I've only seen his stand-up. And it is magnificent.

Does Jonothan Torrens still have a show?

I had to vote American because the three examples are my top 3 comedies of all time. Monty Python is great also. I don't know if I can effectively say for sure that American is better than British. But I can certainly say that none of it sucks.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Simpsons and the Monty python films probably tie at the top for me but then its followed by Fawlty towers, Black Adder and then a few episodes of south park are ok (over-rated series) , Seinfeld if im thinking of the right show ive seen once and was so bad ive never watched it again.

                              Intelligent humour - British
Crass and predictable - American (exception simpsons, go Matt !)
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

                                American!

The Simpsons (at least in their prime), South Park (the best show on TV today), Family Guy (laugh out loud funny), Seinfeld (the funniest show EVER), Fraiser, Cheers, M*A*S*H... ah yes .
