    • I've sent yet an other reminder to their team-email and via PM to platypus and fed1943. This time I got immediate response on both PMs.

      My message:

      Dear friends of the banana,

      We have not heard from you in a long time. We sent a message to you one month ago about the trade agreement, which we got a reply to "this is being discussed" and "expect word soon". We also sent you a friendly reminder two weeks ago, we got no reply to it. We've sent an other small recap on 25/02/2007, again without reply.

      We have been in good diplomatic contact with you for almost the whole game, but have not been able to set a solid agreement in stone yet. Since we decided to focus our research on Alphabet, we also started tech negotiations with GS. In that shorter timeframe we managed to get to a binding tech trade agreement.

      We would very much like to trade techs with you too, but you'll have to answer us. We will finish Alphabet at the end of next turn, and we'll be able to trade. We'll also have to choose a new tech to focus our research on. Our intent is to avoid the techs we'd get from you, but we really need them. We can choose a long far-away tech without real immediate benefits, but we will only do so if we are sure we will get these techs from you in two turns:
      * Fishing
      * Sailing
      * Meditation
      * Priesthood
      You know we will give you these in return:
      * Iron Working
      * Writing

      Please, please, please answer us...

      Answer from Platypus Rex:
      this can be the most madning part of the game-
      peploe stepping up to do diplo...then dissapear on you

      with all the delays and miscommunications we already have writing

      please do not let this ruin what has been built between us

      Let me know as soon as possible what your team has to say
      Answer from fed1943
      Dear friends

      I reply you right now. I'm not sure if I understood well your proposal
      (English is just my 4th language). Do you want us to give you fishing, sailing,meditation and priesthood, while you give us iron and
      writing?
      If so,that is not possible because we already know writing.
      But we are interested in iron working. So, we propose to trade now iron working for fishing,meditation and priesthood.
      We are also open to, after said trade, to discuss other possible
      later trades.
      Best regards,

      I'm very very surprised by fed1943's message. It appears he is surprised by our proposal, although we've sent it 3 times in the last month. Arggggh.... I get the impression no-one is reading their team email.

      • Damn, they should be smacked very soon!

        Trade is agrreed of course and we should ask what they want for researching Sailing.

          • We don't want to delay Machinery, do we?

            And we want Bananas to be delayed with useless to them techs, do we?

            Of course, if there's no deal or the proposal is bad, let us do it ourselves.

            • Further communications with fed1943:

              My PM
              pm by fed1943
              ...
              We are interested in iron working. So, we propose to trade now iron working for fishing,meditation and priesthood.
              We are also open to, after said trade, to discuss other possible later trades.
              ...
              We agree with this smaller trade. Can this tech agreement be considered binding now? We will look for something else we could give you for sailing and maybe come up with a second trade.

              PS: I've sent this message to your PM box and to the banana team email. Is anybody reading your team email (thediplomaticbanana@yahoo.com) or should we keep sending PMs too ?

              His answer :

              The agreement was proposed and accepted, so, yes, it is binding.

              (And please keep sending PMs too).

              It's now Vox turn, next shall be ours; I'll do the trade in-game and

              let you know by PM.

              Best regards,

              He doesn't seem to know anything about the game. He somehow thinks he'll be able to do an in-game trade right now

              On the positive side : communication with fed through PM seem very smooth. I doubt he asks for any team input though.

                Don't be surprised, Bananas haven't showed great knowledge and skill in the game thus far..

                Because there are only two people on the team - him and Platypus, latter being active only occasionally.

                • They have rightly earned the peeling we will give them

                  Without Sailing trade I still think we should go for Monotheism first, then grab sailing and then machinery.

                  • I just played our turn.
                    I tried to do the agreed tech trade, but I couldn't.
                    The program keeps saying "technology trading not allowed".
                    But you have alphabet, don't you? Or must the trade be proposed
                    by you,not us? Or some command special for this game, I know not?
                    Anyway, we keep wanting the trade, obviously.
                    If you can, perform it in your turn.
                    If something I must do to open the trade, please let me know.
                    Best regards,

                    BTW, I'll answer him we'd prefer if he sends diplo-messages to our team-email instead of PM'ing them to me.

                    • well. I don't think we should expect bananas to hold up GS for more than 10 seconds, so we better get there first.

                          • They already have the turn, so either send it immediately or wait to see if they send it by themselves.

                            As we do not need priesthood very urgently (we need GS' techs), I'd suggest waiting to see if they send it without reminder.

                              • I propose to resume diplomacy with Bananas - they're likely to be shooting for Monotheism, which will become obsolete in 2 turns if not sooner, so they will need something to research.
                                The choices for them are CoL and Monarchy.

                                Should we start negotiationg about one of them (CoL seems more appealing, but Monarchy cheaper and prereq to Feudalism)?
                                They could still get in time before we kill them.
