  • How about this. 95% sure it won't work, but worth a try probably.

    Imperio,

You'll notice that Templars declared war on us. How about you sign a NAP with us and use that big stack of yours to take out templars.

We understand you need more land to take on PAL, the dominant civ in this game. It would be much easier to use those elephants and macemen against the unguarded Incan cities than against our stacks where you will get nowhere. This is a good time to do so while the Incan troops are in our lands (and doing nothing useful). Have you seen their power graph?

If we combine our forces we could take out templars in 30 or so turns. And not just razing either - we'd have the forces to keep their cities. You'd probably get more cities than us. Sounds much better than the endless slog we'd endure if we fight each other!

      • Hi,

sounds good, although we probably need a Spanish translation for this to be understandable to them. I don't think this will accomplish anything, but it's worth trying...there *has* to be a reason they haven't declared war on us yet, maybe it's because they've finally realized we would repel their attack. If that's the case, then this letter would show them a way out...

        • This is about iron, right? How about we try convince Imperio by offering a small portion of it? Seeing the current war situation it is too much to ask to trade them iron, since we want to be able to upgrade in case of emergency.
Maybe, if they are interested, we can offer to upgrade their units for them by gifting them a pike, while they gift us a spearman and the upgrade gold. That would allow them upgrades but only controlled by us!

          • MyOtherCar - I am pretty sure that they have iron. We don't (getting it via trade from Banana).

This is actually about them trying to war against us and assuming we would be defending with archers (we aren't). They now know that we have enough to kill their stack cold dead - we are just trying to give them another target.

            • Yes, Imperio has iron. There is a source at their capital in fact - although that's one of the more creative plans I've seen in some time!

I was considering something along these lines as well. If by some chance we could get Imperio to flip sides and declare on Templars, our two civs absolutely could wipe them off them map rather quickly. Now I don't expect them to go for it, but we can float the idea at the very least. (And yes, having a Spanish version to send would be very nice indeed.)

Meanwhile, at the same time we start barraging Templars with messages asking them, "why isn't Imperio helping you? Are you guys really that gullible that you're going to fight and die for them while they sit on the sidelines watching?" The one and only good thing about the situation we're in is that we can try to play Machiavellian politics and turn our allies against them.

...whoever said that this game is pretty much a version of Avalon Hill's Diplomacy, you're absolutely right. For better and for worse. But since that's true, we should be talking to everyone all the time.

              • As far as I know we have no spanish speakers. I have editted my message to use simpler english.

                Dear Imperio,

Templars declared war on us. Do you want to sign a NAP with us and use your troops to conquer templars?

We understand you need more land to compete with PAL, the dominant civ in this game. Together we could conquer templars in 30 turns. And not just razing - we would have the forces to keep their cities. You would probably get more cities than us. This is better than the stalemate we would suffer if we fight each other! This is a good time to do so while the Incan troops are in our lands (and doing nothing useful). Templars have a low power rating.

We look forward to your response,

                    Is that accurate?

                    • I ran it through Babelfish and tried to clean it up a bit

Too active? You missed the day where we had 40 posts in a single thread outlining nine different (and increasingly optimized) plans to chop out the Hanging Gardens. I wish I were joking about that.

On topic, we're looking good on this issue. Go ahead and send the email. Perhaps sending our message in Spanish will give us extra credibility. Can't hurt, right?

                              • For people who used Babelfish, how good is your Spanish? I've gotten results from Babelfish ranging from bizzare to atrocious, so I would rather send English-only message than a Babelfished on.

The English message suggested looks good, but we should add in the end something like "And after dealing with Templars, our teams will be strong enough to take on PAL." This would show them that attacking Templars wouldn't just free our hands to take out Imperio.
